"It's not just the right of the person who speaks to be heard. It is the right of everyone in the audience to listen and to hear. And every time you silence somebody, you make yourself a prisoner of your own action because you deny yourself the right to hear something."

-Hitch

We need to step back, take a breath, and realize that Twitter is just a link to clown world and not really a public square.

I joined Twitter when it was announced that Musk was buying it, and left when I learnt that Peterson was banned. I left WhatsApp and Facebook on principle as well. I have a conscience that doesn't allow me to go against things that I stand for anymore

I think Dr. Peterson's time will be better spent off Twitter so he can stay healthy with all of his obligations. The overarching issue is that too many people can't distinguish between genuine threats and an opinion that they don't like or facts that they would rather not hear.

The term "political correctness" in itself is something that would have fit perfectly into the soviet union, peoples republic of china or the DDR (east Germany). In east Germany saying something even mildy against the government was punished by repression, prison, forced labor or even torture. So you had to talk in a political correct way to not get punished.

Todays combination of people who think positiv about communism while promoting punishing people for saying "wrong things" is very dangerous.

Private companies can do what they want.
Twitter gets subsidies from the government, and is publicly traded, not private.
Even if it was, the actions and principles can still be ridiculed and criticised.
The only reason the crazies defend these rules is because they are rules they agree with, whereas if youre not being diverse, inclusive, or equitable, all those defences get thrown out the window.
Its not about consistency, its not about truth, its not about goodness, its about their hold on power.

I'm glad I'm disconnected because Twitter means nothing to me! And I bet Jordan Peterson isn't losing sleep over it!

To me this is just an example of Twitter making itself less-and-less relevant. You can't consider yourself a 'town square' while simultaneously excluding members of the town.

Nah. Twitter isn't really a public square. If people would be muted here on YouTube, I'd have far greater consequences.

Peterson and his minion should not have been banned from Twitter, at the same time the timing of all of this seems to "coincidentally" coincide with Peterson getting hired on to the Daily Wire. Peterson goes from acknowledging that he's okay with using the pronouns of choice for trans person, to suddenly being confused about what to call Eliot in the over produced response video filmed by the daily wire. They're using twitters own policies to generate controversy as a business model. Ruben has been doing this for years.

I don’t think their bans matter. Rubin’s especially, he’s really just doing it to hop on the bandwagon, obviously if there’s a tweet which is in violation of their rules, you taking a screenshot of it is just doing the same thing.

Peterson being banned from twitter is probably the best thing for his own mental health. It’s a cess pool which brings out the worst in people and I’ll be honest this seems more like an attempt to get free publicity for his new daily wire plus show. This was always his strategy but he used to always do so with integrity. 2016 jordan Peterson wouldn’t have stood behind these statements. He used to never have an issue with someone requesting he refer to them by something, it was against the compulsion to do so.

Yes and no. This does highlight a problem we've all known about for some time now BUT Twitter is a trash platform and it's past time peopoe stopped using it anyway. I never used it. YouTube as far as censorship goes isn't much better. I lost so many channels I used to watch in 2020 because of the Rona and people daring to ask questions.

Friendly reminder, Twitter isn't real. Just don't use it.
