8 Ways You May be Kicked out of Keto - You’ll be Shocked! - Thomas DeLauer

This topic isn't as simple as just consuming carbs which are then going to kick you out of keto and that's that. Now, full disclaimer, the things I cover in this video largely have to be consumed in excess in order to truly kick you out of ketosis, but they can easily do so in the right amounts.

Aside from keto providing you with amazing weight loss, it also gives you increased energy, mental focus, and improved mood - all of which can be disrupted by being kicked out of keto.

You see, jumping in and out of ketosis causes your body to continually switch between glucose v ketone utilization, which can result in some side effects, like disrupted fat burning and the dreaded keto flu.

Some of the things I mention in this video may be kicking you out of ketosis without you even realizing...

Most people try to find a way to “cheat” on Keto. In reality most of us know what we shouldn’t be doing in order to stay in ketosis. I’ve learned that staying strict to eating clean and healthy without compromise will yield the most effective results. For me, drinking Black coffee and eating anything artificially sweetened has been most effective.

I think one of the biggest culprits that cause people unnecessary and unwanted stress while on a Keto diet is stressing over counting and tracking macros and every single piece of food they eat. Weighing this, measuring that, "I'm not reaching my daily requirements", etc. RELAX PEOPLE this isn't rocket science. Esp if you've been eating Keto for a while you should know by now what is Keto friendly and what is not. Don't stress over every little detail!

So many things kick me out of ketosis that don't really effect other people. Certain things bother me in the smallest amounts even if its the last ingredient listed (sucralose & ace k). I know stress gets me a lot. I will have a perfect keto day and get kicked when very stressed. I dont sleep much. Explains why my ketones are consistently low. (down 136 pounds though)

I've been watching so many keto videos lately today and I have been "keto" for two weeks. I have been buying food even though I have a meal plan at college. Most of the food however on campus is very not keto nor healthy. I wanted to be clean but I realized half of the food I bought and ate was not clean or even keto. I got screwed with all the meat and flavored pork rinds I bought because it contained MALTODEXTRIN and DEXTROSE. I am finally learning that now at least so I know what to get moving forward. Thank you Thomas and other keto youtubers who share this valuable information!

When should I be testing for ketones? First thing in the morning? I’ve been doing keto for a couple of months so dont have a baseline—what should I be seeing? I’m 5’2”, about 115 pounds. My husband is 6’, about 180. We do intermittent fasting and are taking this seriously so would appreciate your input. Yours and Dr. Bergs channel have changed our lives when everything else we tried didn’t work.

bouncing in and out of keto....i think its part of the learning process if you really want to become an expert at it. I am definitely bouncing in and out of keto right now. I started a keto journey about 2 months ago and i keep watching your videos as well as Dr. Berg. I've been really cranky lately but literally waking up thinner. This is different because im a marathon/ultra marathon runner so im used to sugar/ complex carbs/ lots of water in my cells, etc. Thanks for all the videos. I feel i have learned so much. The science behind it really is amazing and makes sense. Now, i don't know if i will be able to live on it the rest of my life but i'm enjoying trying something new.

Thomas, I’ve been on Keto for over 3 years. My weight has been bouncing between 198-208 over the last month. And I’ve noticed on the weeks where my sleep has been poor, my weight has been up. If you could co in more depth on this in a video, that’d be amazing.

Thank you, Thomas! I appreciate your openmindedness. I have been on a very strict - get this - dairy free lowFODMAP ketogenic diet in cooperation with The Danish Epilepsy Hospital for 2 years. After a breakdown of stress I really struggle with staying in ketosis - psyllium husks or too much protein in a meal kicks me right out! By now I’m down two 38 g. of protein and 12 g. netcarbs...🤷🏻‍♀️I’m very lean, loosing too much weight again and can’t tolerate any intense exercise.
