About the origin of Sakhas:
There are various theories about the migration of the Sakhas (Yakuts) to the lands known nowadays as Yakutia and formation of the Sakha ethnic identity in this process. The name Sakha and the Sakha people come from the Turkic-dominated eastern part of the Scythian Confederation, where is referred as Saka in contemporary Persian sources. Later, these tribes joined the Tiele Confederation and settled to west of Lake Baikal as Kurykan Tieles. According to some other scholars, Sakhas lived around east of Aral Sea as Sakha-Urankhay tribes together with the Urankhays and came to the west of Baikal from there. Sakha migrations took place in three stages. In the first stage, a Sakha-speaking group came to the Central Lena Basin. The Tumats, who were thought to be the ancestors of modern Tuva people but have become one of the clans of the nowaday Tuvans, rebelled against Genghis Khan and had to flee to the north. Therein, they mixed with the indigenous people with Uralic origin and later dissolved amongst the Tungusic peoples. It is thought that the Vilyüy Sakhas that came to the region in the second stage were mixed with these Tumats. In the third stage, Turco-Mongol groups, which we know from the story of Omogoy Bıraas (Buryat) and Elley (Tatar / Turkic origin) in Sakha epics, came to the region and completed their migration. However, clans such as Haraganay, which constitute an important part of the Batulu/Batur clan of the Khoro tribe, of which Omogoy was the ancestor, were of Turkic origin and later Mongolized. These tribes are thought to be the descendants of the Kurykans. In addition, it is claimed that the Kipchak influence was seen in the culture and language of the Sakha as a result of the two groups living together in early periods. In this way, core of the Sakha people was formed. According to the general view, the Sakha Nation that we know today completed its formation in the 16th century.
