here's what I did in 2005... I let my wife handle her own checking account for a year, then I ended up paying a couple thousand dollars to collections and getting her out of overdraft fees. Then I said, "since you don't even make an effort to balance your checkbook, I'm going to hold on to it from now on and if you need to use it you ask me first. I also keep a separate savings account that my paychecks go to and she has no access to. I use her checking to pay some of the smaller bills and for us to go out or for her to go shopping. My bank account is for paying the bigger bills and mortgage and as an emergency fund. Here we are 15 years later it it's still working good for us and she's gotten better with money.

Never marry before discussing future financial goals. If someone I'm dating is insisting on payments instead of cash...CYA BYE. Plenty of fish in the sea. Unlike toilet paper we will never run out of women. Especially women who need a strong man to lead her.

I'm 48 and she's 50. I've been trying to bring on board getting educated on finances but she just has little interest. What I've learned is she expects me to make a decision on finances and roll with it - not keep talking about it. She expects me to be in charge and she will follow my lead. This is a classic masculine-feminine dynamic.
