Talking to a camera is awkward because you don't get any response, but just imagine you're talking to your dog or cat and you will find all the awkwardness is gone! Give it a try :)

Imagine letting the discomfort of talking into a camera in your own home distract you from achieving all your desired outcomes

Record videos you never plan to upload and riff on camera, that helped me A LOT before I started!

I’m very shy & an introvert, but I’d say the first tip is the most helpful. Just finished my 10th video & after 2 months, you can see an improvement of my confidence. I’m definitely more comfortable filming myself lol. All glory to God! 😌🙏🏼🤍😅

Another tip is to read something before you press record. I often find it hard to just get started talking. once I'm in the flow I can keep going with no issues. hope this helps!

I'm an introvert with INTJ personality and when I was younger at home, I often talked to myself being the only kid in the family. It sounded weird during those times but I'm glad it was good practice for me now talking to camera with no one around!

This is the thing I have found the most difficult about starting a YouTube channel... I have 9 videos on my channel now but it wasn't until my most recent video that I stopped feeling so awkward. These tips are definitely helpful but I think the most helpful is practice, practice, practice. Good luck on your YouTube journey, all!

It’s getting easier and easier for me. Really struggled at first, I mean pulse increase, flush face....just about were I can focus more on content than composure. I think I put pressure on myself, wanting it to be good so badly. Once I realized I could edit mistakes out, I relaxed quite a bit more...Really enjoying it!

You are the first one to mention this. I have watched now a bunch of videos. And you are the first one to say honestly "don't be boring". You need to be at your best. A radio broadcaster of 10 years told me after watching my video that I need to take myself and 10x that. Obviously doesn't mean I need to do insane stuff. But he could clearly see that I am way too timid and soft spoken. He means that simply because of the medium a lot of the energy you have doesn't transfer over to the audience. So you have to speak up way beyond normal levels to reach them.

My problem initially was getting used to my own face. I didn't even know what I looked like, really. Then I had to get rid of thinking that I looked old. But then I realized, that's the point! I AM old and that is the advantage I have. I guess we never stop learning - maybe when I get older!

The part about imagining yourself around your friends/family to make yourself lively is probably the best tip that exists on the internet hands down. Awesome info Nolan!!!

The best tip that improved my confidence when speaking to a camera was filming in a quite environment. Have noone there so that you can be as embarrassing as you want and not be embrassed. It's as simple as that!

Very useful advice! My main problem is being youself. I need some time to realize that I don't have to play and I should act normally like I usually do. Hope I'll be more confident and more myself in my videos!💜

IT'S SOOO TRUE! Practice, practice, practice! I treat my camera like a FaceTime call! <3 It makes it feel more natural!

This one is really hard for me because I'm still working on beating anxiety and depression, I have been trying to use my channel to help take my mind off things, where I used to be spending time thinking about negative crap, I feel like it's already helping as I have been trying to get out and do more stuff again, I started my channel after watching one of your vids and I would just like to say thank you for all the help and inspiration you guys share...
PS if my channel ever makes a profit I'm going to donate 25% a month to charity, focusing mainly on mens health and giving back to the environment :) wish me luck...

while i think for some people it's great to be excited on camera some of my favorite people creating video content on youtube don't do this at all. feels much more authentic which i think is why they opt to not try to rely on adding excitement through how they talk, they do that with the story itself.

I find tip #5 has definitely been the hardest to master - trying to find a happy medium between being myself and trying to be overall enthusiastic and exciting without being over the top superficial. I’m going to take your advice and master this TODAY

Love these tips. It can be so hard to just sit there and talk and what I notice is the first 15 minutes of me trying to talk is a disaster but after that I can just go with the flow muchhh better. Practice is definitely key as well 💜

I've done acting for screen, TV and stage as well as voiceovers for over 10yrs before I started YouTube and I can tell you none of that helped me be more comfortable one on one with the camera. After a year and a half it's getting much easier but it's still a challenge but it gets better with time. Thanks Nolan, all good tips

You are so natural. This video is the most helpful by far.
