What tip would you add to deal with a bad manager?

My manager is “bad” because I am a top performer and always heavily relied on. While I appreciate the confidence, I never understand why they burn out their most valued employees. I have already placed an application at another job. If the money is right (I don’t make lateral moves) I am leaving.

In hindsight I wish I managed my manager and communicated more. Worst case scenario I would get fired but I was going to leave anyways. Thanks for helping me stay objective in the future!

"They just have no idea what they're doing."

So true. My former boss has poor communication skills. He did not share anything with the team. When I complained about it to him, he couldn't understand at all.

After around 8 years working, knowing that the habit would be immediate point fingers, lazyness, constant impolite and mean behaviour, and always wants to be prioritise in all leave days, i have reached to a point where i am done. My therapists agree. 😔

Oh my gosh you made this video right when I was about to scream internally and externally about my boss who makes tons of wrong decisions, especially when I try to guide him in the right direction so he doesn’t look like an idiot. I had asked him a question and the answer he produced doesn’t have an existence in the chapter he’s telling me I should follow- cause he knows very little about what I do but wants to assume the role of expert. One day he told me “I make him feel like he does everything wrong”. He does do a lot of things wrong, but not everything. He doesn’t have to even do a lot of things wrong if he just follows up on the guidance given to him. Instead, he hunkers down and does the complete opposite of what you are telling him. So really, you can’t go and rationalize with him at all. He’s that way with many people, but especially rude and obnoxious with me. I want to tell him the section of literature he cites as having the information I am asking him about doesn’t exist, but another section (that I’ve copied and given to him on many occasions (3 to be exact) has the information he needs to base his decisions on. But if I do that, he’s gonna feel insecure and upset that he’s not right and then continue to avoid the important conversation/question I am asking him or either still pretend the answers are in that same section of reading he insists it is.

I think he has heavy metal poisoning.... that has to be it

My manager is toxic I've tried everything that this video talk about to do nothing worked. she flat out ignores me My last resort was writing her a three page letter about my concerns it was as professional as I could possibly have written it I thought this would be a way to catch her attention and address my concerns boy was I wrong the next day she came in with the worst attitude she never pulled me aside and said hey I got your letter and we can schedule sometime to discuss some of these issues and concerns you have nothing like that at all. I felt like maybe I did something wrong ? This situation has taken a toll on me so much emotional:(

My toxic manager felt like she deskilled me around 20 years, I felt useless because she kept knocking my confidence. When I addressed my concerns, she sarcastically said, I am sorry your feeling this way, but you can always get another job

Unfortunately I'm pretty firmiliar with bad bosses and keep encountering them anywhere I work. There are the wrong ways and right ways to handle bad bosses, and I opt to handle the right way to avoid repercussions that will affect my future career choices.

How about on the 1st work week, a few days in, I get to hear how my desk was all over the place 2-3 days before, how I maybe am fragile or weak and if I cant take it, I should leave it and the job might not be for me. * all I asked was; please have patience with me as I'm just a few days new here* How because of our conversation their workload will be pushed back, leaving them to work past 6 o'clock, cause well, only they can do the job and how I shouldn't ask when they takes their breaks and I shouldn't communicate mine, cause well;they are the manager and my job is different from theirs. How, when asked for patience, my hands can't be held and I can't be babied around and the staff turnover of the department is rampant 🤦🏾‍♀️. I feel trapped! HELP

Great timing. My supervisor is trying to keep it together during this difficult time as the company is recovering from large changes. We usually get along but there are times when we'd meet up for updates and it's as if she's bracing herself and preparing for an argument. I'm sympathetic and concerned for her because I know how argumentative my colleagues can be. I want her to know that it's not the case with me. How do I approach this subject? I tried being straightforward about it with her once and she was defensive.
