In this video, I give the most common deadly mistakes new managers and new supervisors make. These are career killers, and lead to you becoming a toxic boss or a toxic manager without you even being aware of it! These tips are new manager training for first time supervisors and first time managers. Become a great leader! Learn how to behave and treat your subordinates and direct reports in such as way that will command respect, loyalty, integrity, and, most importantly, business performance. Two of my bosses must have thought that this was a check list for a good manager.

I recently moved out of a job due to a toxic boss. It was really interesting going through these mentally and ticking them off. A real shame, the work was great and colleagues were excellent, but manager and junior management were unworkable!

Seeing as how I will find myself with an individual reporting directly to me by the end of this year, these tips will help in making me a better leader. Having always directly reported to someone else, you nailed it from their perspective. And sadly, I have had some bosses in the past that did not follow these and made my job miserable. Thanks for all you do!

I experienced EVERY SINGLE ONE of these at my last employer from multiple members of a toxic management team. It was very cult-like and uncanny.

I now work for a great company with a great manager. Every time my new manager gives kudos, residuals of PTSD from the last employer shows up (as I wholeheartedly expected the positive to be negated by a nit-picky negative at first). I’m slowly recovering…

I love your videos keep them coming. I watched many of them while I was searching for a job, once I started getting interviews I applied everything I learned here. I killed it, I gave myself a pretty good raise by changing jobs and now I will be doing exactly what I have been training for. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.

well said on all of these. Its amazing how not having the self awareness and falling into the trap of doing just one of these will totally kill your teams desire to work for you.

I left my job recently directly because of a manager. Ironically my old job, and my old manager couldn't onboard me quick enough! The rude manager I speak of berated people that left them in tears, was hot and cold and passive aggressive. If you made a mistake one day you would hear a passive aggressive comment about that mistake the next. Never in my life have I dealt with it anywhere. We learned from our mistakes but hopefully we move on, not what this manager. The incessant discussing for gossiping about coworkers with other coworkers just above a whisper constantly. When I mean constantly I mean constantly. I'm never in one position enough to hear who it's about but no they're talking about someone. Not even behind a shut door. I worked in healthcare my whole life I've seen stress and the Ed like no other. This was a part-time retail job. I don't even want to talk about stress all this was, was unethical and rude behavior. I'm so glad I left and never looked back what I miss or my coworkers they were the best!
