Nobody wants to play a dead game and that’s even more true when it comes to MMORPGs as half of the content in these games straight up don’t exist if there’s not players to group up with or compete against, So in this video we’re going to list the Most Played MMORPGs going into 2023, the MMOs that receive the most updates and are most likely going to maintain a solid population throughout the year.

Most MMOs don’t actually disclose player numbers so I’ll be using various other metrics to help me rank the games in this list, The most important thing though is that all the games mentioned in this video have a large enough population size for you to fully experience the game, join guilds and beat the content.

What do you think about the current most popular most played MMORPG games going into 2023 Do the MMOs on this list deserve their popularity? let me know in the comments below!

What we get from this video is that most MMORPGs that are decent enough for us to try were released 10-15 years ago... That says a lot....

I would absolutely love to see a huge massive open world, mmorpg, lotr style game with giant community, factions and lore where the players make the story and events. Like an alternative fantasy reality.

The fact that OSRS is still going strong after all these years brings my heart joy.

Lost Ark is a great mmorpg with lots of content, but i dont think bots are the main reason a lot of players left after the honeymoon period at launch. For me personally, and for many others, the fact that u either have to play alts to funnel all your mats to your main, or pay money, to keep up with endgame content, was the reason many left.

I dont want to play 3-4 different characters, to do the same content on each of these characters, to have a chance to upgrade my gear.

Lost ark's playbase is 70-80% bots. Not even exaggerating. Today they banned over 200k bot accounts. As of this comment the player count is sitting at 84k with bots still wandering around.

Honestly GW2 is a wonderful game to immerse yourself and get lost in. I've returned to the game recently and started playing with my gf (who hasn't really played MMOs that much in the past) and she's been loving every bit of the atmosphere, gameplay and things to do. The Community is really wholesome and everyone's just up to help. Just yesterday I had some guy try and help me beat a Boss for 30mins straight - even tho he gained nothing from it. Game's still active too, can definetly recommend.

GW2 is the game to go spending free time in if you’re adult swamped in vertical progression in real life. Try hards find it boring because you can only grind so much dailies and power creep is mostly skill-dependent

One of the best decisions I've made recently was pulling a plug on Lost Ark.
Underneath the facade of fun combat and decent raiding experience, is a ridicilously pay to win, bot filled, gatekeeping, alt character daily repetetive chore grind, with 30+ convoluted currencies, that will literally make you start hating MMORPGs if you allowed yourself to get invested.

The game was an absolute misery, so if you're new and thinking of jumping in, consider this: No matter what game I've played and eventually quit, I always look back and appreciate fun times I had with it, whether collecting skins in GW2, castle sieges in BDO, guild wars in ESO or raiding in FF.
For Lost Ark, with a clear mind, I regret every second I put into it from start to finish.

If you are new coming to Lost Ark, don't bother yourself. The game is in its worst state it could ever be. Toxic gatekeeping community, tons of bots and an apathetic devs to say the least.

Edit: Bots issue seem to have stabilized a bit but bussing is the new anthem now. Basically you pay other players to carry you through contents. If you miss out on those contents, you FOMO. At the end, the game design needs revamp.

GW2 is so slept on, some of the best open world MMO experiences I've ever had, along with the great mount system, non-p2w, and great combat system.(not to mention some of the best fashion I've ever seen in the genre) Overall an extremely helpful and friendly community willing to help, as a veteran of the game I highly recommend people trying out GW2 if they haven't already!

Definitely have to recommend GW2 for new players. Been playing it on and off for a couple of years, one tip is play all the way to lvl 80 without buying any expansions first. When I first started, I used to go on youtube so many times just because I couldn't figure out how to reach certain vistas or interest points. With the introduction of Mounts, I just use my Skyscale lol for map completion. Haven't even gotten around to playing the EoD expansion, I bought it just to support Anet, i'll probably play it over spring break lol.
Lost Ark is fun until you get to T3, then it's just endless grinding and creating alts so you can feed mats to your main. It was so damn annoying that, eventually I just relaxed on Panda island and the eventually quit the game.
FFXIV is a really good game and I definitely enjoyed playing it the trial. The trial has so much content, but I eventually quit because I didn't want to get attached to it lol. Plus I couldn't get behind the idea of buying the game and then paying a monthly subscription and then having to buy any new expansions too. But I'd definitely recommend it if you have some extra money and time.

Hey Peon do you think you'll make more videos about your life in thailand down the road? Really enjoyed that style of video :)

I think Runescape3's biggest upside is its end-game PvM if you get there. It has such a high skill ceiling with very interesting interactions and ways to outplay bosses to become a better player. The problem is that this takes hundreds of hours at least to reach and then hundreds more to fully gear out. And that is in a non ironman mode

Lost ark was one of my favorite gaming experiences when they just released. Great story and end game content. I remembered when everyone was struggling against the 4th guardian (forgot the name) and the feeling of beating it was just amazing.

However, as pacing starts to slow down and dungeons became chores, its no longer a “fun” game for leisure time but became an item on my to-do list. I just uninstalled it after that realization.

Can easily recommend GW2 for anyone new to the genre or looking for something different done right. Such a high quality game.

Nice to see Settled mentioned in the video. I haven't actively played OSRS before, but his videos are still some of the most entertaining on youtube for me, since he's great at explaining everything even to somebody who's never played it.

I’m actually pretty suprised wizard101 isn’t on this list as it’s one of the only MMO’s aimed at kids (or adults who love the nostalgia). They also have been releasing tons of new content since Kingsisle was acquired. However, it is packed with microtransactions and a membership paywall

It’s all about the personal experience.
To me - ESO will forever have my best memories in the MMO genre.
BDO was the most grindy though less social MMO I’ve played.
New World is where it’s mostly at for me currently. I know many have love/hate relationship with it…. But I think the game is pretty darn amazing and I really am rooting for it.

Lost Ark got old fast. I hate feeling forced to play 7 alts just to keep up with spenders. I quit that so fast. I like 1 main and 2 alts to chill.
