I think another rule of thumb many people should have on their mind when they buy a piece of clothing is their "willingness to ruin." A piece of clothing can always become ruined by some freak accident. And I believe you should buy something that is within a price range where you can act graciously when this happens.

I remember an accident where my relatively affluent friend was in a cafe and a child accidentally ruined his very expensive dress shoes by spilling soda on it. He acted like a perfect gentleman and comforted the child first, and didn't even bother to ask the parent for a compensation; telling them he was getting bored of the shoes anyways. I know this is more dependent on the character of an individual but nevertheless I believe the principle can be applied to other people with lesser character or wealth.

Buy something that you are comfortable with. If your clothes are so expensive to you that they make you worry all the time when you're outside, you should just sell them and buy something that allows you to have a good time and maintain the peace of mind.

For me, the only things worth spending more on are shoes.
As for basic essentials (tees, oxford shirts, chinos, jeans, socks, etc), I just go with Uniqlo.
For certain items (like bags and outerwear), it's ok to spend more for the quality.
Just own a nice designer backpack and a few nice jackets that you can use many times and doesn't go out of style.

Shoes in my experience are certainly worth an investment, especially if you have a wide or flat foot. Think of it as an investment in health.

Spot on as always. Even though you have mentioned it on many videos, I probably would have reiterated the importance and benefit of tailoring your garments. I have done it with lower quality items (blazers, pants) yielding a very sharp look. I think the main investment piece are both outerwear and shoes (I know, you said that...worth repeating though) Cheers!
