For daily protein, you should be somewhere around 0.7-1.1 grams of protein per lb of bodyweight. My nutrition app, MacroFactor, will give you a much more personalized protein target and adjust your calories and macros over time as your metabolism adapts. You can try it for free when you download it in the App Store or on Google Play! Try it out and let me know what you think 🤜🏼

We haven’t found the upper limit of absorption because the definition of absorption can be used in a different context. Utilization vs absorption are two different things

I don't tend to comment on things like this, but there appears to be one glaringly obvious factor that is avoided.
Protein is absorbed in the small intestine, it takes 4 - 6 hours to pass through it.
If you had breakfast at 9 and lunch at 12 you're still digesting your breakfast meal.

The 40g of protein per meal idea seems to be a marketing campaign for supplement companies for their consumption. What is interesting about this question is how many individuals have bought into it or never questioned it.

If the 40g off protein per meal thing were true, the most men and women could feasibly take in a day would be 160g a day.
Given that athletes/bodybuilders consume well in excess of double that I would argue that this minimum is wrong.l

I have a single kidney that my wife's sister donated to me, to keep it safe, I manage to have 30 grams of protein in a day not more, in November we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the transplant and hope that in 15 years, I will be able to celebrate the 40th. My sister-in-law is doing great, even though she has only one kidney left.I owe her my life.

The limit people always mention is how much you can absorb in an hour. You can still absorb more from a single meal it just takes longer than an hour

Its not about how much you can absorb in one meal but how long that protein can be usable by the body after consumption as protein can only be stored in the body as lean tissue which has a finite growth rate. Any excess protein is converted to calories or waste.

This changes depending on protein source, whey is the fastest digesting with protein levels only being elevated for about 3 hours. Casein is a slower digested protein that maintains elevated protein levels for almost double.

Based on what you said at the end, the study means that the absorption limit is at least higher than 40g. It doesn't mean that the limit is at least 100g.
