Getting a fire started from a bow drill can be very exciting for those of you that practice brushcraft and primitive fire starting techniques but also can be a difficult process without practice. Having the right materials and drill kit setup is extremely important when building your bow drill kit. In this video I go over the components of the bow drill kit and give you some tips to be successful if you have had difficulties in getting a coal in the past.

I liked that you talked about wood density and why to choose what you choose. I compared your stance to the student on the new video. I notice that you have more stability; some new people like me may lack strength in arms, wrist and will have more of a learning curve.

Very cool...thanks for making this...my first attempt was a fail...I also used a green wood spindle. Any tips on how to get a good pine spindle that is seasoned enough but does not crumble apart when you begin to carve it?

Your advise is more of a danger then a help, stop telling people that your gear doesn’t work & learn how to make it work !
