Water Oak Bow Drill Friction Fire, Stop rejecting the harder woods for bow drill!!!

I found some nicely degraded Water Oak on the walking trail this morning. I couldn't wait to get home and try it out. One of the best bow drill sets that I ever had was from Red Oak which is another very hard wood. Other decent sets of mine have come from Maple, White Oak, American Beech, etc. Don't reject the harder woods for bow drill especially when they are well degraded.
Come see what a great job the freshly found Water Oak did today... Please SUBSCRIBE at the end of the video. Thanks!

I'm already blown away at how patient and relaxed the truly talented fire makers are once they have their ember.

Nice Mr. David. Never thought of using Oak for a bow drill. Now I have to try it too!

Great video again David, I love your love for fire :-) I'm often wandering around thinking oh that's a nice hand drill or spotting something nice that could be tinder or char. So much fun in making fire from "nothing" :-)

Darn you! Now I'm going outside to try some rose of sharon. Every time I watch you I get the bug!

I definitely like hard spindle less wear, soft on soft seems you have to keep tuning up the spindle. Thanks for the videos really enjoy!! I believe your addicted to smoking ha ha

Very nicely done. Small tip- hold the bird nest vertical so the heat goes into the nest more (I live in cold weather country and every °C counts here when doing bow drill).

Thanks for another great video. Could you do a video on the steps of preparing, drying, and shaping of your hearth board and spindle sets? Thanks again.

Hi David, im a new subscriber, ive seen alot of your videos showing that the edges of charcloth are best to catch a spark and so i was just curious if you have ever tried shredding charcloth to almost a dust to see if that dust would catch a spark super easy?

Awesome video! As a fellow Georgian I have wonder what types of woods we have here for good friction fires.

I just made a fatwood bearing block. I used a step drill to start a berring hole in a piece of fatwood. So I cheated. I was given some fatwood. I told my son that he could have some so he grabbed 80% of what l had.
