How to Install AMD Ryzen CPU and Cooler for Beginners

Guide on how to install the AMD Ryzen other AM4 CPUs and stock Wraith Cooler included with some of the higher end AMD processors. In this video I am using the ASUS Prime X570-P motherboard. Links below are Amazon paid links to the products in this video.

You don't need to connect both RGB cables to the cooler. If you connect the cooler via 4 Pin RGB cable, the cooler will act as a single RGB component and LEDs can be controlled via Aura Sync but LEDs are not addressable in this case. But if you connect the cooler only with the USB cable, you can control the LEDs of all three zones (Fan LED/Ring/Logo) separately and they are addressable. To control like that you need to install Coolermaster Wraith Prism software.

The prism performs the same as a single 120 rad AIO water cooler. I tested mine out a few days ago. The prism looks much nicer though, because of its 3 separate RGB lights which can be modified to any color you desire, with the AMD Prism software you can download. Its also very silent, provided you choose the silent setting on your BIOS or even create a profile so it only runs at full speed (which sounds like a turbine engine) when your cpu hits 70c. That's how I have mine and 70c for an R5 3600 is perfectly fine and well within its max temp. The beauty of it is, I only reach 70c when I'm benchmarking, but it hardly ever goes above 69c when playing games. Really nice.

Side Note: After a few days (with both cables plugged in) my RGB began to flicker. Unplugged the USB and now it is fine. :D

Hi, could you please tell us which software you used for the cooler fan colors?

Having holes on top of your case makes hooking the clamp with the lever much easier because you can peek through them while hooking the clamp. Also, either install the heatsink while you haven't installed the motherboard info the case yet (much easier!!) or install the heatsink with the graphics card removed. If your graphics card is near the CPU socket the clamp with no lever is a real pain to hook onto the CPU bracket.

So helpful my cpu was getting hot, I was worried it would get damaged. After watching I realized I needed to REALLY clip the movable clamp down. Brought my cpu Temps down about 15°C at Ray tracing Ultra in cyberpunk.

Very informative. Much thanks. Had my computer assembled by the guy at the shop (then redid it myself as the cable work wasn't aesthetically pleasing) and never understood why the CM utility kept saying that it couldn't find the RGB device. Never realised until after watching your video that there's actually another cable for the RGB. Thought the main fan connector also handled the LEDs in one go. Your video prompted me to look inside the box of misc parts just to find that there was in fact two cables there waiting to be used. As suggested, used the USB one and worked immediately.

Now I can finally do away with the annoying RGB cycles and stick to the boring white lol
