The System To Build Habits EFFORTLESSLY

When people ask me how I've been so productive in starting a youtube channel, a business, and publishing a book all while working as a doctor, my simple answer is just building strong habits. But habits are not as simple as they sound. They can take a long time to form, and most people quit before reaching a habit's activation energy. But after building so many lasting habits, I've come to realize that taking time to plan ahead and design your habits based on scientific principles will dramatically increase their likelihood of success.

🙏 Thanks for watching!

mfw as a chronically depressed person when dr. mike says, "... one of the strongest habits we have, brushing our teeth." 😭 i've gotten better at it these past few months tho!

Well i want to make a habit of studying. I quite enjoy it so the reward section won't be as hard. What are difficult for me are cue and routine. Here's my plan:
Cue: i will turn my phone on focus mode until i get an hour of studying done when i get back home. I will keep a set of questions out at the end of my prev study session so that I don't have to choose (i am a tora so that's even better as a challenge)
Routine: finish the questions, revise the day's notes, set questions for the next day :)

I'm really a type of person who enjoys learning.. I had a very hard time in school 😒😂because I couldn't enjoy it and take my time to understand my favorite subjects or any other thing. Now that I'm graduated, I understand that I was like a bird in a cave.. So every time I want to study, I sit behind my desk and organize it. Then I'll put my chosen books on it and start a timer. After all my study sessions, as a prize, I study my favorite language.. I know my friends say that it's another study sessions, it's not a break or something.. But actually I don't see language learning as something like studying. I don't know how to explain 😅 I'm trying to see studying for my future like this. Gaining information and educating myself because I like to know and enjoy... Again thank you for taking your time 💛

Love this! Andrew Huberman actually explained that rewarding yourself for something lowers the pleasure you associate with the action itself. So rewards may do you more harm than good. Internal motivation is the way to go.

Here's a quick overview of the formula:

Start small. Don't try to change too much at once. Pick one habit you want to focus on and start there.

Make it easy. Remove as many obstacles as possible from your way. For example, if you want to start exercising in the morning, put your workout clothes out the night before.
Make it rewarding. Find a way to reward yourself for sticking to your habit. This could be something small, like giving yourself a sticker, or something bigger, like buying yourself a new book if you reach a certain milestone.
Be consistent. The key to success is to be consistent with your new habit. Even if you can only do it for a few minutes a day, that's better than nothing.

well as a Kitsune it is really hard for me to follow a plan or schedule and be consistent 🤧 ngl it is kinda stressful thinking that i didnt used my time productively but after a month or two without even looking at my books within just 2 days i scored 80+ i think i can top my class with just being a little consistent plus following a routine will heal my body too so its a win win for me, sending love from The Kingdom of Kitsune
Thank you guys 😁

Firstly, THANK YOU so very much for these awesome videos: they are EPIC! 😆
A small one, to help me get the gist...Habit: not pressing snooze
Cue: the alarm (Placed away from bed, so I have to get out)
Routine: jump out of bed, turn on light THEN turn off alarm, Start the day (e.g. wash face, make bed)
Reward: Smile, a pretty bed and feeling accomplished (already: in 3mins!) And not delaying/missing what I had planned

But yes, genuinely, every video I've watched is so motivating. Also loving that on these newer ones you give us a task to try and do: so we properly take lessons and not passively watching (may or may not have been guilty of this in the past 👀)

Hey I would really appreciate if you could elaborate or make a separate video on rewarding yourself, that is the trickiest part for me.

well i want to make a habit of studying,
basically when i start studying i study for over 2 hours.
however the "starting" part is the hard part. my subject of study is somewhat enjoyable
so my cue is to remove all distractions from my room. which i just did. hand my phone to my parents, (which i did.)
and lastly actually stop watching yt videos for hrs.
my routine is to use the pomodoro technique and when i'm taking a break not use yt or other social media. And do this for 3 hrs than take a 1 hour break of eating, relaxing, and reading.
Btw im trying to get into duke :)
