If you want to master a habit, the key is to start with repetition, not perfection. You don’t need to map out every feature of a new habit. You just need to practice it. This is the first takeaway of the 3rd Law: from Atomic Habits

I switched from watching all the details about this horrific murder in Idaho to watching your channel and I cannot thank you enough for switching my mindset to a more positive outlook I was staying up most nights, terrifying that some stranger was gonna walk in my door and murder me and my family and now I am back to myself or feeling more like myself so thank you!!!

8:21 It takes 21 days to form a habit and 28 to keep it.
But the difficulty is not the motivation
The strength is the discipline
You don't need a exact moment to start.
You just need to start.
Start small and repeat.

Initially I had a hard time watching your videos because I'm super unhappy with parts of my life. I've gotten over that (mostly) and you are inspiring me to do better and that the future can be brighter.

Love that book! One of my habits is--trying to actually finish what I start. Started Atomic Habits about a year ago, and although I LOVE it, I haven't gotten through it yet. Still trying though! I keep it on my nightstand by my bed. 🤣 Borrowed it from a friend --I started reading when I was housesitting for them and they don't have wi-fi. Or cell reception. Gonna house sit for a week this Saturday so I just might finally finish it! And leave it there. One year later. My smartphone distracts me too much at home.

“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.” I like this principle. This book goes great with that mindfulness workbook called 30 Days to Reduce Stress by Harper Daniels. Being mindful and setting good habits is paramount.

Atomic Habits is the best book on habits that I have ever read. I also highly recommend the author James Clear’s newsletter, with lots of inspirational ideas, quotes and more stuff about habits.

This is such important advise but of course few will follow it. It's fun to declutter and diet and dive into new projects. Not so fun to stop buying stuff, being the boring person who eats healthy, and taking the small steps forward. Here's another one from my hero Don Aslett. Set a standard, not a schedule. I live in a clean house vs. I clean on Tuesday.

Hi Gabe, I have broken the chain of eating out have not done that since 2015 which is 7 years now. I do not even miss getting food at fast food places once a person changes that eating habit it can be a life changing and never want to pick that up again of a course it helps not to hang around people who are addicted to going too fast-food places. I am working on myself to do thinks to keep my house cleaner I been doing declutter for about 10 years now, and my place feels so much better now. I never heard of the book Atonic Habits. Thank you, for your video on Atomic Habits and making it super clear to grasp what you are saying in your videos, I been practicing writing clearing and be more specific. Keep up with great clear videos.

Gosh, I was so happy that little fuzzy finally jumped ship at 8:21! 😝
Now I can rewind and rewatch the video and learn something instead of watching it for 2+ minutes! 🧐

I take meds for PTSD. If there is junk I'll get up and binge on it in the night and not even remember it! If there isn't junk around I sleep! It's such a weird thing that my subconscious clearly knows there is junk around! When I cut out juice and soda years ago I decided that I was going to drink at least half my water each day before I could have this sweet treat, I naturally quit wanting juice and soda and easily drink 8 chips of water daily without even thinking about it now. I have a cup of water before my feet even hit the floor in the morning. It's great to naturally just not want the extra calories in juice and soda. I lost 70lbs by not buying the food that I'll binge on in the night and by making water a priority!

This is an awesome video! Ty.
I wrote down which classes I'm taking at the gym each week to get specific,
I also noticed in my thinking that McDonald's is such a minuscule decision for a drink at the moment, but that tiny little thought can turn into a meal and a habit easily!

I love Atomic Habits! I think Habit Stacking is one of my favorite take-aways from that book. It really works for me!
