This channel is like Atomic Habits for people with no attention span to read books or listen to an audiobook 😍

“How important it is to watch the narratives I feed my kids.” I’m a parent and I’m learning that from a non-parent! 🙃

Notes to self:
- building identity-based habits (character)
- the goal is not to build top grades, but to build a character; *to build a habit of studying everyday*
- what's important is not chasing the outcome (A+ grade), but to build a better a new identity

- the goal is not to get straight A's, but to become a chracter who studies a little btit everyday; don't worry about the outcomes, focus on the transformation.

- focus on what you can control: make the right decisions everyday, and overtime, your actions will compound into habits and transform your identity.

- Feynman tehchnique to figure out the character you wanna become; helps u transform into the character u wanna become

- you must ask yourself broader questions: why get straight grades? why get a good resume? wy become a doctor? if all ur answers lead to u just chasing outcomes ('being rich, for e.g.), they are EXTRINSIC FACTORS. you need to look into INTRINSIC FACTORS more. r u curious about how the body works, do u enjoy learning medical related things? those are the intrinsic factors.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the great pixel art animations and art that went into this video. Not only are the ideas presented engaging, but the method of presentation is so creative and artistic!

Okay so I tried it and here is how it goes:

-Why do I want to create the habit of improve my game art skills?
Because I want to become a game artist
-Why do I want to become a game creator?
Because I want to see people being happy while playing games I created/helped created
-Why do I want to see people happy?
Because it warms my heart so see fellow humans entertained and makes me happy!

Been curious as to how identity shifting can correlate to the ways in which we form new habits. This came at the perfect time!

•Key Concepts

1. Identity-Based Habits
- Focus on becoming a person who performs the habit, not just achieving a
specific outcome.

2. Motivation Spectrum
- Extrinsic: Driven by rewards/punishments (e.g., good grades).
- Intrinsic: Driven by joy or love for the habit itself.

3. Transformation over Outcome
- Transformation of identity is key (e.g., becoming a student who studies daily).

4. Feynman Technique
- Ask "Why?" repeatedly to uncover deeper motivations and shape habits around
your core values.

•Practical Steps

1. Identify the Character
- Determine the kind of person who achieves your desired outcomes.
- Example: Instead of aiming for straight A's, aim to become a diligent student.

2. Shift Focus
- Move from outcome-based goals to identity-based habits.
- Example: Study daily as part of your identity, not just for grades.

3. Intrinsic Motivation
- Cultivate a genuine interest in the habit.
- Example: Find aspects of studying you enjoy or align it with your values.

4. Exercise: The Feynman Technique
- Write down why you want to build a habit.
- Dig deeper into each answer to understand your true motivation.

•Implementation Tips

1. Daily Actions
- Make small, consistent decisions that reinforce your desired identity.
- Example: Attend classes, put away distractions, exercise for mental clarity.

2. Positive Self-Talk
- Avoid negative self-narratives that hinder habit formation.
- Example: Replace "I'm bad at math" with "I am improving in math."

3. Iterate and Reflect
- Regularly review and adjust your habits to ensure they align with your identity.

That questioning of "why?" and finding the purpose of why I was studying civil engineering was the sole reason why I decided to drop the degree to become a retail manager. It might sound like a bad life choice to many, but I like managing in retail because of the process, not the outcomes.

man this technique is so good. I only asked myself some questions about why do I want to do things and I already feel lift in spirit which is not really a motivation but an obligation to do things. love you man.

How discipline solely is not the key to success but identity and character mainly constitute in being disciplined. Knowing and understanding why you do this or that is so much better to succeed than just relying on outcome rewards.
