Today, we're going to talk about the effect magnesium has on a person's mood. There are a lot of things magnesium does in the body. Magnesium even has an interesting effect on neurotransmitters.

A magnesium deficiency is an extremely common problem. Symptoms of a magnesium deficiency can include:
• Anxiety
• Depression
• Low tolerance to stress
• Insomnia
• Irritability
• Brain fog

The effects magnesium can have on a person's mood:
1. Magnesium can increase serotonin (serotonin may make you feel calm, happy, and stress-free)
2. Magnesium can decrease cortisol (cortisol is a stress hormone)
3. Magnesium can lower adrenaline (this may help you sleep better)
4. Magnesium can increase GABA (a neurotransmitter involved in relaxation, feeling calm, and sleep)
5. Magnesium can increase melatonin (melatonin can help promote better sleep)
6. Magnesium can increase the parasympathetic nervous system (it can help promote calm)
7. Magnesium can decrease the sympathetic nervous system (the sympathetic nervous system can keep you from sleeping)

Hi Dr Berg, I am from India, working in the Middle East as a civil engineer for the last eight years. This is a real experience narrating from the core of my heart. I have been suffering from a sleeping disorder, Fatigue, weakness, and other disorders over the previous seven years. I had consulted several doctors. All they had given sleeping pills, which caused more problems eventually, I had to stop. One day I came across one of your Videos on Magnesium deficiencies and their causes. It entirely matched the symptoms to mine one that you had explained. After watching your videos, I got another life. I started Magnesium, Potassium, Zinc and Nutritional yeast in a couple of weeks my all problem disappeared and impacted a huge difference. Now I am feeling more energetic and focused. You have made me stronger and healthier than ever. I wish I had come across your videos sooner. I salute you for your generosity. At last, I have no words to say; only tears are in my eyes …….. Thank you, Dr Berg!

I started taking magnesium suplements 2 years now, i no longer get that horrible chest tightness feeling caused anxiety, i still get normal anxiety but it doesnt escalated, infact its as if my body refuses to react to what used to be my triggers. I go out more, socialze easily, sleep better. For me citrate, and glycinate work best. I hope this helps anyone dealing with anxiety

You are one solid dude....more intelligent than any typical MD/OD and this is coming from a nurse who works with many.
Your videos are succinct and to the point and the white board gives a great visual. There's nothing not to like in your videos. Oh, and no presumptuous behaviors or drama like a lot YouTube channels of all kinds.
Keep it up. And thanks!

I started taking 500mg of Magnesium through a pill. I feel way less stressed out within less than a week of taking a magnesium supplement. The anxiety, stress, and depression still exist but they're not as severe as they were before I started taking a magnesium supplement.

Please do a video on the best types of Magnesium & the benefits of each type- L-Threonate, Glycinate, Taurate, Ordate, Malate, Citrate, Sulphate, Chloride, etc. The first 3 are apparently the best- is this correct 🤔

I wish information like this was more emphasised by doctors and mental health websites in general, cause it genuinely is crazy what proper nutrition does to mental health

20yrs ago due to breakdown/clinical depression I was put on antidepressants - saved my life back then, , but never got told they were addictive, had side effects and extremely hard to come off, these side effects that I experienced over the years I thought were 'just me' ie : confusion, dizziness, lack of comprehension, forgetfulness, ditheriness, couldn't string a thought into a fluent sentence, lack of; caring, abilities, creativity, interests, energy, sociability, cooking, eating.... All of these that had made up ME dwindled over the years which then have kept me in a self-loathing state of mind.
No doctor (there has been 4, ) has bothered to address these changes in me as being the side effects, instead they swapped the med or up'ed the dosage, and had me out of the office within 5min's!
Never was diet or supplements ever discussed or suggested over the years and now here I am finding out about Magnesium & Potassium on
After reading 100's of positive comments (on this video and the others), about your experiences, advice, info, and tips who have tried or been taking these supplements for various reasons has given me new hope, hope to come off the antidepressants and change over to healthy magnesium to regain my old self and to get rid of the drug side effects.
So thankyou Dr.Berg and all you lovely people 😀😘
