**Keto Diet Explained In 60 Seconds**

Keto was originally developed to treat epilepsy patients. People eventually started using it for weight loss as well. The keto diet works by changing the body's main fuel source from glucose to fat. This is done by drastically reducing the intake of carbohydrates, which forces the body to use fat for energy instead of glucose.

Carbohydrates are restricted to a maximum of 10% of daily calories, or about 50 grams per day. The majority of calories (about 60%) come from fat, such as oils, ghee, butter, eggs, dairy, nuts, avocados etc. and the remaining 20-30% come from protein sources like fatty fish, meats, chicken, eggs, dairy etc.

Many studies have shown that the keto diet can help to manage hunger, which can lead to less calorie intake and therefore, weight loss. however, the biggest problem with this diet is that it eliminates many major food groups, such as grains, legumes, and starchy vegetables. This makes it difficult to sustain the diet in the long term. Additionally, the keto diet can be expensive too.

If you are able to follow the keto diet for 20 years, go right ahead (Listed below is a list of foods to use allowed and not allowed during Keto). However, if you are not able to do this, then eating a little less and increasing your activity level always works for fat loss.

Foods allowed in keto
High-fat sources like meat, poultry, fatty fish, eggs, full-fat dairy, avocados, nuts, and seeds.
Low-carb vegetables ( leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower).

Foods Not Allowed in Keto:
All Grains (bread, wheat, rice, oats, pasta)
Legumes (beans, lentils)
Most fruits (due to sugar content)
Starchy vegetables (potatoes, corn)
Sugary drinks and processed foods

Other disadvantages
Nutrient deficiencies: Strict keto can limit essential nutrients from fruits, whole grains, and legumes. Careful planning is needed to ensure a balanced intake.
Keto flu: Transitioning to keto can cause flu-like symptoms like fatigue, headaches, and constipation.

Challenges
Adherence rates for keto in the long term are not well documented. Some individuals might be able to maintain it for several years, but it likely requires a high level of commitment and planning.

Hi Manish bhai, have a doubt. For a beginner like me what should be the protein% out of my total calories? I am underweight, want to gain but it will be good if I have lean muscle mass. Why everybody talking about long term its just a tool used for max 6 months and if you do it in low calories, can give wonderful result (multivitamin electrolytes alag se lena padega ), upto 40 kg ghat sakta hai

Very well said, cutting down your regular food that you eat at home on daily basis makes no sense as keto requires a complete change of the diet. After getting your desired weight if you go back to your regular home foods. Your weight will start going back up as it will cause an Increase in Glucose and your body will start storing it for the energy, Rather keep eating your home food and incorporate workouts. So your body gets accustomed to the home food and workouts that you are doing. Stay healthy ❤

Yar but it works and I find it very tempting amongst all diets, can't I use this diet for sometime and drop it and then get back to normal diet by just reducing the food amount in future...

But what about diabetics? Eating carbs even in moderation can be harmful for some, grains like rice, roti or can even they consume carbs like rice in moderation and exercise to be able to follow such a protocol lifelong.
