My auto mechanic told me long ago stay away from audi. Right on Scottie!

I worked on a LOT of Audi/VW turbo 4's and what we found was the oil pump pickups getting clogged with carbon which starved the engine. Reason is a little complicated: Audi engineers designed everything with their usual German efficiency requiring Premium fuel and synthetic oil. Marketing bean counters said "Oh...some people won't buy them if they have to put in Premium fuel...and it has a knock sensor so we're removing that requirement." I'll bet you $100 that every Audi turbo 4 that dies was run on 87 or worse gasoline and is largely the cause of the carbon in the pickup because the engine tries to detonate on the poor fuel...the knock sensors retard the timing to stop it....which makes the exhaust temperature spike in the head and turbo where the oil is cooked and turned into carbon which goes to the pan and into the oil pump pickup. And of course most Audi owners didn't want to spend the additional money on synthetic oil either which just makes the overheated turbo carbon generation all the worse.

It got so bad that I talked lots of Audi owners into letting me drop their oil pans during a fluid change after they admitted they'd been running Regular fuel....and I found the oil pickups clogged in various degrees on every one of them. Once we got them cleaned up....and the owners agreeing to run Premium fuel and synthetic oil....we had none of them die. If you're reading this and own any turbo engine...please run good fuel and synthetic oil in it.

Alignment. About 20 years ago, an infectuous disease spread among politicians in Los Angeles - put in speed bumps. So, I went out and bought lifetime alignment from Firestone! The Santa Monica FD made an appearance and testified that if one of its trucks went more than 8 mph over a speed bump, the frame could break! So, every few years I have a free alignment. I clear the car of any valuables, take a book, made an appointment, take a sandwich and it is off to Firestone.

My friend had this Turbo, and it honestly blew up in his garage, and he had oil shoot out all over the garage floor. He had it towed to Audi and told them to keep it😅

I bought a 2010 ford focus, in August in 2009.Been driving it almost 15 years now
Have nearly 196k on it., 2.0 liter, 5 speed.. I would venture 20k miles of dirt roads. Have buried it up to the frame in now a pc. of ****. It still runs like a champ, getting 34-36 mpg....
But have never replaced the exhaust system, not even a muffler, clutch, anything other then the usual, serpintine belt, plugs, (once), oil and filter, air filter, tires and batteries.
I feel bless and the car owes me nothing.

Thanks Scotty .... I keep getting ripped off by the dealers to pay about $200 for an alignment every 6 months to 1 year. Ok so if it doesn't shake or has uneven wear, not needed. Gotcha.

Circa 2008 I was thinking of buying a new V8 Audi S8 because it was the last year that they would be offering the manual stick transmission.

A friend who is into German cars advised me against it due to reliability issues with many Audis.

When I asked him how bad the issue was he replied "Like standing by the side of the highway waiting for the tow truck to the dealer bad."...

I used to have to get alignments. Then I bought and have driven Honda's for over 20 years, haven't had one since 🎉

The self-driving taxis only exist to save the companies money. Nothing eats into the bottom line as much as paying your employees. If you get one after requesting a cab, refuse service.

My 2002 Liberty (60K), 2004 Taurus (103K) and 2008 Quest (123K) all run great. I'll take an older vehicle any day.
