You're partially right.
The other side of the story is that some people are making fortunes by pushing this crap. One politician invests in one element that goes into the battery, another has stock n the company that supplies the chargers or connectors etc...
...and the rest of us just get screwed.

My parents showed up with a Hyundai Tucson rental tonight and there were no switches! Everything was a touch button! It looked cool but very confusing. I heard my dad trying to figure out how to shift it in gear. He turned the parking brake on and off 3 times. Can't imagine trying to repair it.

This has been going on forever. Even a 12 year old diesel car has about a dozen modules. There's even a module in each door.

If you want your engine to last for hundreds of thousands of miles, I’m still changing mine every 3, 000. I realize synthetic can go further in miles, but I find the oil already dirty at 3K. 282, 000 and still going well.

Scotty, my son has a 2012 Volt and he still uses it today. It has over 150k miles. Some repairs on the way but the battery and engine is solid to this day.

I love these cars with all the bells and whistles. They keep our shop busy and whoo whee we make lots of money to diagnose the problem.
