HOW MANY MILES SHOULD YOU PUT ON AN EXOTIC CAR?

Cars are meant to be driven. With that said, when it comes to exotic cars, it seems like most people who own them, don't drive them as much as others think they should. Is there a reason for this? How many miles should you put on an exotic car and why? I don't think there's a definitive answer to these questions, but I can share what I've done and why. So if you're thinking about getting onto this market or currently own an exotic car and are unsure on how much you should actually drive it, the info in this video should be helpful.

This is 100% the way to do things if you want to swap cars every couple of years like you do. Variety is the spice of life, I can respect that. I think there's also a strong case to be made though for looking at exotics that have already done most, if not all, of their depreciation as a way to sort of guilt-less-ly put miles on something fun (at an admittedly lower "prestige" bracket). For example, if you went out today and bought an Audi R8 4.2 (the V8 version) with ~30k miles on it for ~$60, 000usd. You have a car that looks, sounds, and more or less goes "exotic". You could also double the mileage and probably only lose $5k in value. The balance is that you're more likely to run into some shop bills. *That* said, it'd take a LOT of shop bills to offset what the first owner lost in depreciation from ~$150k --> $60k. (YMMV, this comes from an idiot with 283, 000 miles on an old NSX and a Gallardo bought with 64k miles now with 67k after less than a year).

I love the type of content you make. I like how you talk about what it’s like owning a super car and how much it costs, and talk about the problems come up with ownership of a super car. Its very interesting to listen to how it is owning a super car. Since in the future I want to own a super cars its nice to now everything about ownership.

Drive it whenever you want, don’t worry about depreciation, and if one can’t afford the depreciation they often can’t afford the car.

Good points. I daily drive my NSX all year round here Saskatchewan, live 5 blocks away from work in a town of 5000 people. Still, after a year and a half of ownership I've put 17, 000 km on the car. I've done road trips to BC etc....Excellent point regarding keeping the car....I bought an S2000 in 2007...still have it 13 years later...STi in 2013...still have...NSX new in 2018....will keep....

That's the best thing about my very high mileage mx5 I drive the doors off it everyday and it's still worth nothing like when I bought it 10 years ago lol...great video I aspire to a 4c which could happen next year if I keep working my arse off...cheers from new Zealand

I like your videos keep going. People love the real talk. For my own taste tho, I think you don't have to cover every edge case just to not offend anybody or to later justify "yeah but he said it is like that". Instead I would prefer "In my experience high mileage doesn't matter because of X and it does matter when doing Y". Anyway you do good work here, keep it up!

Can you please make a vid on how to finance a super car please ( how much to put down, how much per month, how much do you think should have on the bank account, etc ..)?

I just found your channel a little under a month ago and I'm hooked on your videos! I think my favorite one was the one where you justified the reasons as to why an exotic car is worth it. This is definitely off topic but would you recommend waiting a few months to buy an exotic car in case they drop more? I've been searching for a gen 1 v10 Audi R8 for a few months now but can never decide when the best time to buy is... Keep up the great work Josh, these videos are an absolute joy to watch!

I know a Lexus GS-F isn't exactly a "supercar" or really anything on that level. But I'm going to get one for my daily driver once the beer flu is over.

The big takeaway from this, putting everything else aside, is that, besides being uncomfortable and lacking storage space, it's a waste to drive these cars around town or in heavy traffic.
My 2013 C63 is an exotic supersedan, but it rides stiff, is hard to get in and out of with the great big bolsters that are great after you get in, and is a gas hog. I take it on longer trips out of town when traffic is light. The rest of the time I drive a Honda Civic auto, stock suspension, upgraded wheels/tires.
If you do sell one of sell to a private party or have the dealer consign it.
Get a limited production Ferrari in the upcoming recession and you can get it for a great price.
When you sell the Huracan let me know someone who may be interested.

I'm in Sarnia and was in an motorcycle accident in 2020. We settled in court for 8mill. Now I'm looking at a 2019 Lambo with 3200kms. OR a brand new 2022 C8 but I REALLY want the lambo because well, nobody has one here 😄 I'm 38 so Insurance should be low (ish) and Audi is in London so maintenance should be low and easy. I'm thinking about it but I don't know what to do

I've often heard that 400mi/month is best to keep everything well lubricated and functioning properly. Some people say older cars with lower milage tend to have issues with seals etc what do you think?
