Changing your oil more frequently means your piston rings, valve train and chain guides will thank you.

Former Fleet manager and as stated below, 5, 000 miles is recommended for vehicles with normal duty and light dust conditions. Now, if you only drive your car a few miles a day and never get the engine warm than you need to change your oil every 6 months (regardless of mileage) It all depends on vehicle usage.

I've been a mechanic for 30 years and I use quality synthetic API SJ or better. 5000 mile oil changes for a light footed medium range driver in a non dusty location is sufficient. I just diagnosed failing lifters and timing chain tensioner due to 10, 000 mile change. $4, 000 fix vs $40. Fix.

Every 3-5000 miles, or 6 months, whichever comes first. Oil is cheap as compared to a new engine and labour to install it. And check the oil at least once a week.

How many miles? Nevermind.
How many coldstart? That's the point.

Oil is the engines life blood. Change it out every 5, 000 miles and use full synthetic.

Just change it at 5, 000 miles and stop acting like it's expensive. A new engine can be between 6, 000 to 9500.00 dollars.... Oil changes are cheap, engines are not

Good advice given at the end of the report “change oil a bit sooner, engine will last longer”

Car manufacturers don't want your car to last 200, 000+ miles. It's bad for their bottom line. They want that engine to wear out right after the warranty expires, so they can sell you a new engine or a whole new car. An oil change using top of the line synthetic oil going for $16/quart will cost you around $100. A new or remanufactured engine typically costs no less than five or six thousand dollars plus labor and sales tax. The choice could not be clearer.

I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla with 210K miles. I use 0-20w Vavoline max life full synthetic oil.
I change my oil every 10K miles and I have no issues with my engine at all!

My car, My choice. If i want to change it every 5, 000 miles I’ll stick to it. Whole engine is much more expensive than oil. 👍🏻

Oil and filter changes are cheap insurance. You will never change them too often. Oil doesn't really wear out unless you cook it. It gets dirty with sludge, varnishes, condensation, and blow-by. Also the additives gradually lost their potency. I would never go beyond a year, or 5K miles - which ever comes first. That's the best insurance for a happy engine, which will reward you with a long life.

I started changing my oil @ 6000 mile intervals back in 1997 . Most of cars owned since then recommended 7500 miles . I've never had any issues

Subaru recommends that you change your oil every six months or 6, 000 miles, whichever comes first. I think that's a good rule of thumb for all new vehicles.

No matter what oil change interval you are comfortable with, still gotta check the oil level at every fuel stop.

Listening to your mechanic makes a lot of sense. 3 to 5 k miles is what most mechanics recommend. If you plan to keep your car for a long time I’ll listen to the pros.

I agree 100%. 3-7.5k max. Your engine will last longer. Conventional oil, every 3k miles, synthetic blend, 5k miles, full synthetics max 7.5k miles. Never believe the BS of 20k or some ridiculous claim of 35k miles! Choice is yours, it’s your car.

Also.... there are Tons upon Tons of videos on Youtube of mechanics replacing engines w/ 175k miles on them. The owners of these cars followed the 10k oil change schedule. It doesn't take much to mess up pistons with low-tension rings.

I know from experience the 10, 000 mile change is asking for trouble. I Don't care what the owners manual says. Would you rather spend an extra 200 to 300 on oil changes annually or an extra 7000 on a new engine.

Change your oil and filter at 5, 000 miles or at least once a year! Some people (myself included) do not drive more than 7, 000 miles a year, I change my oil at 5, 000 miles or one year (whichever comes first).
