I write code in my head. The syntax highlighting is in colours that don't exist and the intellisense is displayed in the fourth dimension. I can't really port my code onto other machines yet, but I hear Elon Musk has a company working on this.

The most underrated feature of vim is giving you a personality.

Honestly if you are sincerely interested about vim learn the vim motion believe me not only does your whole programming experience change but you will never want to go back but of course it does need some sacrifice but it's totally worth it

There are two types of vim users.
1. Who talk about it.
2. Who use it.

Personally I write my code on pen and paper, it goes straight into production with 0 testing

As a VScode user I agree vim users are superior

Personally I use Microsoft Word because only real developers use Words

the only shortcuts that i actually use in vim are
shift + s -> going to bottom
shift + g -> going to upper
/<words> -> search the keyword
l<number> -> jump number of lines below...

yeah those are same with vi too, because i work on embedded linux system and the system only has vi as the editor...

sadly copy paste in vim does not going well with clipboard beyond vim it self...

My dad programs extremely important stuff for a major aerospace company. He exclusively works in Fortran, and writes his code in fucking notepad.

I use the bing search bar as my IDE, we are not the same.

I think 99% of VIM users use it because they don’t know how to exit it.😂

This guy sounds like he never learned how to quit vim.

I am a new vim user, and it feels intuitive enough to me.

I use voice to text recognition as my IDE. We are not the same. Don’t even need hands.

You want to learn vim because editing text in it feels like a video game, and it's also more efficient.

Many editors have a vim mode, even the leetcode editor has one. It’s a great way to standardize keyboard short-cuts and not having to memorize all editor short cuts.

I feel like people who thoroughly enjoy vim, really enjoy taking time to customize stuff. I just want something that works well, is relatively lightweight (read: doesn't waste half my RAM) and I can easily configure for what I want, so VS Code is a perfect fit, although for Rust I do have some performance issues with the rust analyzer being slow on startup.
My friends who use vim talk with joy about how they've configured their editor which makes me think the reason they like it IS because they like configuring stuff, and to some point, they're proud of the work they've done. A lot of them also go back to "updating their config" (I honestly don't know what that means) periodically, some do it monthly, some do it yearly.

You can only appreciate Vim when you are in it for a while
my wrist is happier now

okay but vim motions are unironically really awesome. you can get them inside vscode too

Vim motions make most IDEs fine to use. I like Vim because the "random keys" are actually just a few patterns that you have to learn.
If you dont feel like writing and maintaining a large config, I get it.
