Death of Queen Elizabeth II Announced on Flight
Passengers and crew aboard a flight out of New York City on Thursday, September 8, received the news from their pilot prior to landing in London that Queen Elizabeth II had died.
Video taken by Laerke Christensen captures the message being delivered to a flight that was headed for London Heathrow from JFK in New York on Thursday.
“I thought I should at least tell you that before you arrive at the terminal, because I know many will be very, very sad about this,” the pilot said.
Two flight attendants on opposite ends of the cabin are seen dabbing their eyes.
The queen had served as the United Kingdom’s head of state since 1952. She was 96.

I think this was very thoughtful of the Captain of this Flight letting the passengers know of the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth

I was in a coffee shop and when it was announced that the Queen had passed - people instantly stood - it was like they could not believe what they were hearing - a sign of deep respect - even here in the deep heart of American southwest.

I was circling Uranus when this was announced. I went from full on to limp within seconds. How sad... for all of us involved in the rim job. R.I.P. Queenie.

I’m Italian and when the Queen died I was in a hospital. When it happened, people started talking and asking each other if it was true and people were sad. We are not english, nor a Commonwealth country. She was truly admired in every single place.

I was on a flight coming back from Crete and when we got on the Captain announced her passing and did a lovely speech and we all clapped for the Queen without prompting it just felt right.

I live in the Netherlands, I was at a bar when I hear the news. People instantly looked shocked and stood up and all the televisions there broadcasted CNN or BBC news, I don't remember which channel, for hours straight about the Queen's passing. She had huge respect from anyone around the globe.

Even though I'm not British I still admired the Queen because of her abilities to live up for that long and inspire other people, She's the only queen that has a great heart for her people...

I had a similar experience when I was on board a Virgin Atlantic flight. On July 22nd, 2013, we were flying from London Heathrow to LAX. About two hours after takeoff, the captain announced Prince William and Catherine had their first baby Prince George. Everyone cheered.

Though, it must have been a sad flight on that day. My condolence to the Royal Family and United Kingdom.

She is the only Queen we know of during our short life time, at least for most people, the only Queen. RIP.

The worst captain announcement was my flight from London to New York on the morning of 9/11. United States is under attack by unknown enemy and we are returning to London

I was teaching when I found out, and my kids wanted to know about it so we googled information and read the news together. I am a teacher of English as a 2nd language, my students are 11, we live in Argentina yet they were so interested. Just incredible.

My Mother admired the Queen for her grace and dignity. She was one of my mother’s heroes. My Mom passed away six months ago. Now we have lost the Queen in the same year. I love you Mom. Truly a great generation they both belonged to.

Whilst I don’t agree with the monarchy at all . She served with duty and was an honourable, great and inspirational woman, she has served something far greater than herself that has been a force for good in the modern world, and has supported so many great causes and been some guiding light in dark times

She was old, she died. It’s sort of expected.

One nice thing is that the Queen was at Balmoral Castle, a place she loved so very much.
