Theresa May had parliament in stitches of laughter on Friday as she recalled dropping a piece of cheese in front of Queen Elizabeth during a picnic at Balmoral Castle.

After picking up some cheese from a hamper, May said she put it on a plate and went to place it on the table before disaster struck and she dropped it on the floor - while being watched by Her Majesty. Luckily for May, it seems the Queen was not disapproving of the 'five-second rule'. 'I looked at her, she looked at me, and she just smiled,' May said.

To be honest, this is what every 'passing' should be, yes mourning, but also celebrating a life.

Would have been hilarious if the Queen said "five second rule" 😂

The funny encounters Her Majesty The Queen must have had are probably countless. Her self control must have been 100% at all times. I have spilled my drink laughing uncontrollably for minor things 😂😂😂

As an American, I've always admired HM Queen Elizabeth II. Her Class, Elegancy and Dignity will forever be remembered. My condolences to her family and also to the People of UK, Realms, and the Commonwealth.

She could have done with this charisma while she was PM

This is nice to see. Politicians laughing *with* each other rather than *at* each other :)

If she was still alive, she would say: "Alas, we are all mortal. Cry not, for I have lived a meaningful and fruitful life. I am thankful for all the time I have spent with all of you, but my time has come."

May's tribute in the chamber was by far the best, with a mix of poignancy and humour.
