Saw the film yesterday with my wife to a relatively full theater and enjoyed it. But my wife and I both had the same issue conveyed; too many subplots, some of which seemed to resolve with no payoff.

if they would have chosen either Bellucci or Defoe's character and condensed the two role into one villain character, a lot of issues would have been fixed and the film would be stronger for it.

Thank god Kevin Smith didn't get his claws into it in the 90s

I loved this movie. Like a lot of people say it had too much going on, like they damn had two movies worth of plot crammed in there (I would preferred a focus on Beetlejuice’s crazy ex over the kind of bland boyfriend but that’s just me) but what matters most is that it was FUNNY. Honest to god actually fucking hilarious and just as irreverent and cartoonish and out of its mind. It didn’t rely on nostalgia baiting or revisiting old gags to carry itself unlike say Ghostbusters Afterlife did. And best of all everyone was just fun to watch. The vibes were on point even if the story was a mess.

Cool. You've changed my mind. I was REALLY not looking forward to this, thinking it was gonna be another passing the torch to the next generation reboot, but your review reassured me.

Really, Really, Really enjoyed this movie! From the story, set designs, acting, especially Mike's, Winona and Kathleen's! Amazing ❤😂😂😂

I enjoyed Beetlejuice 2 a lot, I was happy that Michael Keaton had more to do. My only issue is like you mentioned the subplots. There are two in particular that I felt could’ve been removed. 1. Jenna Ortega’s boyfriend. 2. Winona Ryder’s husband trying to marry her.

Had these two subplots been removed/rewritten it would’ve been a tighter film overall.

I liked the idea of Monica Belluci being Beetlejuce’s ex wife, but they didn’t do enough with her in the film.

Other than that though, it was a fun sequel.

I have seen it in theaters yesterday. And I didn't expect how good it was, again. I had a great time to watch it.

My biggest complaint with the movie was, there was just too much going on. They set up the exwife like shes going to be the main antagonist, but she literally doesnt do anything. You take her out, and almost nothing changes. She doesnt even interact Beetlejuice or Lydia until the final scene, and shes immediately killed off. Killing off the step mom didnt really serve much purpose either, she was also just an annoying character. Then you have Willem Defoe's character thay was kind of funny, but again, served little purpose. And then you have the daughter and boyfriend plot, which moves the story forward but was again barely needed.

I want to criticize this movie not having a story, but the first one doesn’t really either. Although that one is paced better and is funnier. This one was funny and creative enough that I was entertained the entire runtime.

Saw this on Friday and while I didn't hate it, I really wanted it to be a better film. I think on the whole it was a bit mediocre. It does have the spooky season vibes, some great design, effects and the cast put in good, game performances. I loved Willem Defoe's character (he really gives it his all), but he had so little of consequence to do; ditto Monica Bellucci. For a film opening at the start of the Autumn season, the upstate New England small town in the Fall setting, is as cosy as a blanket made out of pumpkins and apple pie. But the story is meandering and stuffs in far too many plot threads than it can cope with, leading to none of them carrying any real heft. The plot about Astrid's boyfriend should probably have formed the central thread; it had stakes and emotional weight. The script also had a weird fixation with roasting new age adjacent therapy culture, as if this was what all the cool kids are into. I think we should be thankful that it doesn't stray into 'woke' culture territory, but even that would be pretty stale in 2024. Its gag about 'influencers' was a bit on the nose too and is already a theme that feels dated. I felt that much of the humour fell somewhat flat or only raised an amused smile, rather than belly laughs. There were also some strange choices on display, like an overegged bit about Soul Train (yes the 70's TV show), again its 2024, who out of an audience of mostly millennials and younger is going to get that reference for the full effect? I don't know why they didn't just write out Jones' character, like they dealt with the Maitlands, rather than spending so much time pointlessly returning to him; truly baffling. If they had tightened up the story, jettisoned bloat like The Soul Train and Charles Deetz's repeated appearances, they could have had a corker on their hands. Like I said, I didn't hate it despite its many flaws. It does have a lot of charm and has been pitched at precisely the right time of year. If you want a movie to kick off the Autumn, then this is probably it.

I’m so mixed on watching this film because on one hand I love the original Beetlejuice (1988) but on the other hand I’m not really a big fan of legacy sequels due to their reliance on nostalgia and a overall lack of creative risk-taking (though Top Gun: Maverick is definitely an exception).

It was fun, and that is something most films today can not claim.

Havnt seen it yet. Although, some might disagree but I know when I watch your reviews there isn't any major spoilers. You're underrated my friend. I value your opinion over most.

Try not to spoil anything, but I want to see Tim Burton make a movie of Defoe’s character before he died and also just a funny movie where the shrunken heads just run around the living world that was my favorite part
