Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Movie Review: A Return To Form For Tim Burton?

For a while there, you couldn’t have been blamed for thinking Tim Burton had maybe lost a bit of his touch. He had a long run of mediocre movies that climaxed with Dumbo, a movie the director hated so much it almost made him quit the business. However, watching Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, it can’t be denied that returning to his old stomping grounds by making a sequel to his first mega-hit, Beetlejuice, might have been just what the doctor ordered, with it his most energetic, playful, and creative film in years.

I'm just shocked that Tim Burton and Willem Dafoe have both got this far in their careers without working with one another until now. I feel like he should be a Burton regular among the likes of Keaton, DeVito, HBC, and Johnny Depp.

I would like to visit an alternate Earth to see what Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian would have been like

Monica Bellucci looked a bit Iike Sally from A Nightmare Before 🎄 💀

I fully expect to hate this, but I honestly hope I don't. I would love to love this movie.
Having said that, even if this movie turns out to be awesome, I still think it seems like a completely unnecessary sequel.
Having said 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵, if this movie does do well, I will be very disappointed and a little confused if they don't make a third movie called "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice."

As a fan of the cartoon. I wish we could have seen characters like the dancing spider and french skeleton.

You just added a massive spoiler and the movie is out in two days...

On a second watch, I thought it was pretty bad.
Ryder has one facial expression for most of the movie, Bellucci was completely wasted, Ortega's character is one-note and cliche, the plot had too many threads that were underdeveloped, the needle drops were super forced, the musical number was mis-appointed and too long. It was a mess with a few highlights. O'Hara and Keaton were the best parts.

Winona Ryder has that shocked/worried/sad look on her face 24/7. Catherine O’Hara was the best thing about this movie.

It was a fun movie, close to the original. Keaton & O'hara made me laugh the most. Definitely not disappointed...my favorite part was baby Chucky

There's a line in the film where they mention Adam and Barbara "found a loop hole and moved on", I did wonder if that was a subtle reference towards the actors being unwilling to reprise their roles. Did they "find a loop hole" in their contracts and "move on" to other projects, the wording sounded very Hollywood to me in the theatre.

I have not seen it, but it should end with a live reunion of Oingo Boingo playing Dead Man's Party for about fifteen minutes. That would be a fitting end to all of their careers.

Finally saw the movie at my regal in IMAX!
They gave us gummi worm snacks in little cups as treats

Felt pretty short but a worthy sequel to the older one
Great to see Michael Keaton and Wynona Ryder easily slip back into their respective roles
I love how they explore more of the afterlife and this feels like a true return to Tim Burton’s cockamamie weirdness
I did appreciate the usage of many practical effects, makeup, set design, and the visual gags for the deceased, they really go all the way
Much of the humor still works and the chemistry between Ryder and Jenna Ortega as mother and daughter serves as a good mirror image of two generations dealing with death
It’s hilarious too how much the filmmakers don’t like Jeffery Jones’s character considering the real actor’s career took a huge nosedive
Glad Danny Elfman did the score again and there’s a hilarious dance sequence near the end
Lots of stuff in this that feels reminiscent of the 90s cartoon
It’s a shame though the story this time feels very unfocused and a mishmash of several other plot lines going on, they drop one subplot entirely since they all feel cluttered
Some of the motivations are shaky too by certain characters
And it’s a shame that Monica Bellucci is barely in the movie despite her being a huge tie to Beetlejuice’s past
Death, mortality, and aging are still the prevalent themes this movie covers even generations apart
Confronting the unknown and conquering your fears….nothing is harder
Its refreshing Burton gets back to his macabre sense of humor and visual style after so many slumps in his filmmaking overture
I found it funny too it ends on a hilarious punchline
It’s all about going for the ride and having a good time
Who knows if there’s gonna be a part 3?

Saw the trailer for the first time when I went to watch Deadpool; was almost instantly sold on going to see it and the review here has me thinking I'll definitely be making a trip out to the cinema to watch it now.

A solid review. Too many pros vs cons reviews out right now. My experience was perfect. I live near the beach. It was very foggy last night when I walked to the theater. 945pm showing. 5 people in the theater thats including myself. Basically, I was in the right frame of mind. Theater popcorn, 711 Hot Dog. Vitamin Water. Cookies and Cream king size Twix. 8/10 is spot on. Replay value is high on my list.
Side note the multiple plot threads is due to the era we are in. Tik Tok brain is real. If there were 3 plot threads like in the first, todays audience would have lost interest. Many characters that were a threat were illuminated in the way they were because they were scum. The characters didn't deserve to exact more harm than they did.
My only complaint was the lame Lord of the Rings animated movie trailer.

I can’t help but notice the Kerbal space program sound track in the background and have to ask if you’re a fan of the game?
