I have never cared about what critics think, if I want to see a movie, I will, if I don't, I will not. I will be seeing this movie no matter what.

I always though Keaton should have done many more comedies than he has. Looking forward to seeing this film. Thank you Mr. H.

Burton said this movie revitalized his directing. Glad to hear that's mostly true.

A massive Beetlejuice fan already, I was worried this could be a flop (or worse, woke trash) but the trailer gave me some assurances and I can't wait to see it

Hopefully we're witnessing the comeback of practical effects 🤟

Shock! Some of the “critics” are criticising the non-woke Jenna Ortega

I've loved the scenes I've seen so far and I'm hopeful that it's actually going to be a fun movie.

Jenna Ortega is going to be heavily type cast as the goth horror girl for the foreseeable future.

Ive been sold on this since the first moment we see in the teaser where Keaton states "The Juice is Loose". I didnt take the first one seriously, i mean its supposed to be Fun and just have a good time. I plan on having a Groovy time when it releases.

Jenna Ortega is just an overall beautiful and smart human being and thankfully she isn't with the current woke agenda and neither are Michael Keaton and Tim Burton so overall it's a watchable sequel. 🎉

the fact that the trailer had zero woke or contemporary creepy mannerisms already sold me to this.
And the critics don't like Jenna? it just sells this even more.
Ofc they won't like someone that speaks the truth about hollyweird.

Its telling that WB lifted atleast in part (The full embargo lifts next week) the review embargo over a week before the film premiers. That means they either have alot of faith in it and know it will get generally good score or they know it will do well regardless of what reviews say.

Anywho Im not really sure where this article got the idea that Astrid doesn't really work as a character and isn't likable. I've read darn near all the reviews, there's somewhere around 50 so far some in Italian and German (I know I'm a loser) but only one mentions that as a sticking point. The rest are praise worthy of her and her character. So that's odd.

As for the broader consensus from these 50 or so reviews is that the movies good, it doesnt break new ground but it's charming, genuinely funny, a worthy follow up and sees Burton back in good form. Some say it's better then the first, others say its on par, and yes some say it's not quite there but is still a good time.

Right now doing the math of positive to negative the film would have a RT score around 78 which incidentally is the same as Deadpool and Wolverine, and right where I personally predicted it would be.

Audience scores for legacy sequels tend to be higher. SO it will fall somewhere between 75 and 85 on RT critics scale and probably a high 80s low 90s audience score.

One interesting trend I did notice about the smattering of overtly negative reviews I saw is they don't seem to understand the assignment. Criticisms include things like chaotic narrative, thin plot points, janky paceing. They seem to be approaching the film as a serious film critic about to break down Schindlers List, but this is Beetlejuice a series now of films thats hard to even categorize let alone rate. I couldn't help but think did you watch the first film? It was a chaotic mess and that's why it's so charming. Perhaps unironically a few of these negative reviews came from people who admit to not liking the first one so some of those scores are no big surprise.

It's also very interesting to see the dichotomy between the positive and negative reviews and the two trains of throught. Literally some reviews raked the movie over the coals for doing certain things certain ways. While other reviews heaped praise on those exact same things. It's circles back to the idea that some people get it and some people don't.

In the end its a relief to see the movie not getting savaged, my fear was that the early reviews (which more or less set the pace for those to follow) would destroy it ala Borlderlands or Madam Web. So whew, we avoided that. Instead the large majority says it's good fun and a welcome escape from the real world. For a smaller minority it's just a movie they didn’t want or don't understand.

This movie looks great, that Mario Bava call back in that new clip was a horror nerd deep cut, and you can already tell they had fun making this movie.

The question is,
DID THIS MOVIE NEED TO BE MADE?

Beetlejuice was an Original Concept when it came out.
Halloween would have been a better release date, but I'm sure they know better🙄
