I’m diabetic and any type of rice will spike my sugar the carbs outweigh the fiber. Only way i can hve it is if i have a rlly small portion. I would also like to note the importance as a dietitian to know that everyone’s bodies react differently to certain carbohydrates.

This is what I’ve learned from my research:

1). Fiber (both soluble & insoluble) will help you feel more satiated longer. Fiber also help delay glucose absorption by allowing the food to go further down the intestinal tract. Fiber is food for the bacteria in our digestive system. By feeding them the good stuff, the bacteria will help us.

2). Portion matters. Ideally, more fiber from veggies, less in protein, and even less in carbohydrates like rice, pasta, potatoes, etc.

3). Order of food eaten matters: veggies then protein / fats and then carbs last.

4). Cooking method matters. Steamed potatoes vs fried potatoes. Steamed broccoli vs boiled broccoli.

5). Have small snacks if needed to avoid being too hungry. For example, some apple slices with low sodium cheese or nut butters. Cracker with avocado and tomatoes or proteins like tuna/sardines with olives.

6). Read the food labels. Avoid added sugar in packaged foods. Do not shop for food when hungry. Shop the perimeter of the store, avoid the middle aisles if possible.

7). Eat foods that are in its natural form or eat less processed foods. When using canned foods, most foods can be rinsed to reduce sodium levels.

8). Enjoy life! It is ok to have sweets, just be judicious and have some form of fiber before eating sweets (think flax seeds, soaked chia seeds, veggies from your meal).

9). Plan your meals. Pre-cook and store / freeze.

10). Get enough quality sleep so your body can regenerate and be ready for the next day.

Everyone is different so experiment for yourself and see what works for you. Spend 5-10 minutes a day just breathing and reaffirming to yourself that you can do it because you are worth it!

I'm sure you have good intentions but everything about this is awful. Please dont tell diabetics to eat THAT MUCH rice in one sitting. And as a big fan of tofu, I am appalled at the idea of eating it raw, unseasoned, then 🤢

Basically eat the opposite of what she eats and you’re good to go. Can’t imagine a food worse for diabetes than what this „expert“ presents here.

It’s the kimchi the broccoli and tofoo that outweigh the rice. And that helps.
I’ve followed Charmaine’s diet and my blood sugar came down.
I can’t eat a plate as big as hers as I’m older and more sedentary
But her videos helped me beyond words.
Prior to her videos I was eating low carb diet. I was afraid of any kind of potatoes or grains. To my folly. I ended up with C reactive protein and ketoacidosis in my blood profile.
My blood sugar went up. Not down. I was super puzzled.
I had dehydration. My tongue was dry and my skin on the arms shrivelled.
All this in the last two years I ate low carb. Ate VERY little.

She blew the lid off with her videos. She named all the setbacks if we ate low carb high fat. I had all she said we would have. In my blood profile.
I started eating plant based whole food whole grains in portions I could manage according to my appetite and my blood sugar plummeted.

I’m satiated now. Never hungry like before.

Because I’m eating a high fibre nutrient dense meal which stops all my cravings.
Doctors have got it wrong. They put you on a guilt trip if your sugar is high. They keep disbelieving you that you ate little. And few carbs.

I was healthier when years ago I just ate what I wanted. Low carb almost killed me. I lacked nutrients for my body chemistry to work synergistically.

Thank God for Charmaine. The Sherlock Holmes of the diabetic mystery.
Everyday I wake up knowing I can eat well and not die.

Finally I’d say this. Experiment. And see what works for you best. Less rice more veg. More plant based protein - anything. But eat wholesome food because your body needs a whole range of nutrients to put this diabetic demon down

Do you recommend your diabetic patients go on insulin to handle the carb load until insulin resistance is gone?

That is too much rice, You only need at most 1/4 of the rice. Misleading to capture the trend. Unethical

If I ate that nightmare, an hour later my glucose meter would read 250.

Try quinoa combined with rice that will increase the volume and protein

I’m back on my whole food plant based diet too cause that’s the only way I was able to lower my A1C and enjoyed it. I began eating meat and dairy again after a few months just to see how my body would react, and unfortunately, I kept eating it despite the fact that I was starting to feel all the pain I used to feel before. Now I’m 20+ lbs heavier than when I first began a whole food plant based diet. I genuinely enjoy eating this way and it’s made me healthier than I ever was in so long.
