Women have much higher rates of autoimmune disease than men, and rates increase dramatically in perimenopause and menopause. And Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is the most common thyroid disease in menopausal women, causing hypothyroidism / low thyroid levels.

Many symptoms of low thyroid overlap with common menopause symptoms, including hot flashes, fatigue, and weight gain. So make sure you get your thyroid levels and antibodies checked. Don't assume that your symptoms are a normal part of menopause.

Testing for a Hypothyroid problem was the easiest part of this cycle of this condition. I've been working with all of the cascading issues with help from a variety of NDs, MDs and self education about my own well being since my late 30s...30 years ago. ND prescribed beist 25 years ago which helped, later a different ND added progesterone cream. Now Ive added Estrodile patch and will cycle oral progesterone. I've now studied amino acids via a Dr, and wil have aminos tested to help myself in this my new 68th year and beyond. Thanks for you and other progressive menopause MDs & NDs.
