It's not a trick, it's called being a sniper. It's a big part of why they are disliked by friend and foe alike. Also the Soviets and the imperial Japanese did the same.

This is a tactic taught in sniper school. It's been used in EVERY war. By both sides. Kinda BS to pin it on the germans alone. Read a book. Geez, watch a movie.
