That was the calmest way I’ve ever heard a Sargent give instructions

She didnt fuck up. In grenade launcher training, they use these inert rounds filled with orange chalk. They're pretty flimsy, and do this occasionally. Sometimes the blow apart in the launcher, so it just spews a bunch of cheeto dust out the end.

She is still very calm, puts the safety on, and following instructions.

This isn't a DS talking, it's a weapons instructor. We're a different breed. There's a time and place for the yelling, but in a lot of situations a clam, firm voice is a lot more productive

I love that she put the safety on before putting the "gun" down. It's the little things that save lives

For those who don’t understand the training grenade or the launcher itself malfunctioned. Do you see the smoke? the training grenade blew up like 5 feet in front of her the shrapnel from a real Grenade can kill you at that distance. That was the malfunction at that angle it should’ve went atleast 40 feet in front of her if not more.

To clarify: unlike a gl0ck or AK that is a grenade LAUNCHER as in it’s meant to LAUNCH the grenade. YES she pulled the trigger BUT the malfunction is that the “grenade” (chalk filled round) “exploded” right out of the barrel, which in a real launcher = instant death

Bro being in a bunker with a bunch of idiots with live grenades was one of the scariest moments of my life.

Glad someone explained. I had no idea what she had in her hands. Back in my day ( Insert between dinosaur and now joke ) it was either a grenade or a M203, and that looked like neither. Fun fact.... Smoke grenades could be chained together with CS gas grenades to make colored CS gas. Fun Fact 2 : Copters suck air in from underneath. Do what you will with that info, I know I sure did.

Sergeant was calm as he did not want her to panic and possibly hurt herself or someone else. His attitude probably changed after the incident was neutralised. Amen to my Master Sergeant.

My husband is 11B, and it happens that using blanks can cause weapons to malfunction. But what is important is that soldiers follow proper gun safety and clear their weapons correctly. Recently, there was an incident on base after EIB range qualifications. During evening formation, a young E3 thought it was a good joke to take another dudes rifle, unclick the safety, and fire the weapon. He did that and blank fire out. The weapon was not clear properly. In addition, the graders at the range didn't properly check to make sure the weapon was cleared. This incident happened in front of Srgt.Major.

This incident was considered a misfire. You could be stripped of your rank. The srgt. Major decided not to strip these soldiers of their rank but no longer could participate in EIB and were given extra duty.

A few years back, my husband had an incident with a private fresh out of boot camp. They're were practicing line drills and playing war games. The 1st srgt at the time told them to go into line formation. Almost everyone in this squad is an E4 and an E5, including my husband. The private was the only one of low ranking. Instead of following in line, he stepped behind my husband. When 1st segt order them to shot. The private was shooting blanks into the back of my husband helmet. My husband felt and heard it, and before he could react. The 1st srgt slamed the private into the ground. The other soldiers took notice and grabbed for the privates M4. That private got an ear full from my husband and the 1st srgt and was given extra duty and was taken off the lanes. When asked why he did it, the whole thing wasn't done out of malice. The private was just nervous and didn't think about where or who he was aiming at.
