If you have a problem with deer browsing, it can be frustrating to see your foundational shrubs damaged time & again. Fortunately, we offer plenty of options that deer tend to pass by! Noelle lists attributes that deer avoid, and she introduces 25 deer-resistant shrubs to grow for specimen, hedge, and foundational plantings here in NE Ohio!

Hi Noelle: An interesting point you mentioned is no plant is completely immune to deer browsing. I always was able to grow barberry well when living in Ohio with no problems from deer. Now in zone 6b Indiana we don't have harsh winters but tornados and fortunately we are not located in a tornado valley. Many shrubs are more deer resistant than others and can be grown for their beauty in the garden. Thank you, for showing so many. Have a nice weekend!

Thanks so much for valuable info. I took out my Rhodes because every year they were denuded by deer. Daylilies don't last long either

Such a helpful video Noelle, thank you! Living here on the edge of our national park I’m needing to learn to live with our deer friends. Coming home one night when we first moved here I saw what looked like the entire herd in our front yard. 55 years ago when we built our first home in this area I planted a row of barberries. I don’t believe the Pygmy size was available back then. I had to constantly prune those shrubs and, you are right, what a job!

Thank you so much, very helpful info. I've had heavy deer pressure in my garden for the sixteen years that we have lived here, but finally we are putting up a 6 feet tall aluminum fence around the whole perimeter of our property and it will be completed by fall.😃
I am not even going to know how to act when all of my plants are growing like they're supposed to 😂
There are some plants that I have never seen in bloom do to consistent deer browsing 😂😂

Deers eat lilacs here in southwestern Nova Scotia, barberry shrubs too. Deers love to eat spirea here. Bought several because of size and shape and yesterday we ripped them out because in three years never had a bloom on any of the different spireas because the deers just devour them. Deers eat viburnum too, all the leaves and the viburnum species. Daily battle. Good information, thank you for this video.

I had bucks rub & stripped a 4 yr old Hetzii Juniper last fall. How does one keep that from happening besides staking them off with netting….on acreage here & too many to do.

Are there two dwarf holly varieties with thorns that could produce berries?

I was told that Rhododendron are deer resistant. I bought a 5 gallon last year from Pettittis and the deer ate all the leaves. I just just had to dig it up. No leaves

I got now from you tube message that my comment is removed, I don't remember if I wrote anything here and did you reported me .... When I commented in some videos I have my free speech mind . I don't understand. What is wrong with you, where is my comment and what I said that hurt your sensitive feelings? Did I wrote something, first time I saw this video.
