PETITTI Weigela | Grow Weigela for Deer Resistance, Fall Color & Pollinators

These rounded, deciduous shrubs have been bred to make a big statement in the landscape. Along with being a great deer-resistant shrub, Weigela are also fantastic pollinator-attracting plants for sunny spots in the garden! Watch this video with Noelle, Horticulturist, and Education Director with Petitti Garden Centers, to learn more about the benefits of adding Weigela to your landscape. Newer varieties are compact growers covered in green, burgundy, copper, and variegated foliage producing white to pink, rose to red tubular flowers that are repeat blooming. Weigela are easy, perfect performers for sunny small spaces, in containers, and as low hedges. As with most planting projects, we recommend fertilizing with @EspomaOrganic Plant-tone® and Iron-tone® to provide nutrients needed to establish a healthy root system.

Another informative video - thanks Noelle :) Agree about Weigelas being versatile plants in terms of flower/leaf colour and also sun requirements as I have some in part shade and dappled shade and they bloom well! However, most of mine have been bitten down to the nubbin by pesky rabbits the last couple of years! So sadly, no blooms :(

Hi Noral. Thank you for this detailed info on caring for a weigela. I have two tuxedo Weigela that was planted 2 yrs ago. I was pruning late winter or early Spring. Maybe that’s why I wasn’t getting a full blooms. I will trim after they flower to see if that’s works out better. Appreciate the fertilizing tip. Very helpful.

My twopink and trilogies did not have 1 bloom this year AT ALL. Do they need a couple years before they bloom?

This place is so expensive!!! Best nursery in the region is Kraynak’s in Hermitage, PA! Worth the trip to save money! Petitti’s = overpriced!
