Hurricane Helene has caused catastrophic devastation throughout the South. Nearly 100 people are dead and millions are without power in the wake of some of the worst flooding on record. The flash floods took dozens of lives in western North Carolina and stranded hundreds more.

Rescue crews continue to search for the missing as other relief efforts are underway and CBN's Operation Blessing is delivering help and hope in areas of Georgia and North Carolina.

Helene made landfall as a powerful Category 4 hurricane late Thursday night, slamming Florida's Big Bend region before continuing her march north, bringing unprecedented rain and flooding.

Please don’t forget South Carolina.
Still trees on houses and power lines and power poles broken. 300 broken poles in our area.
So many people and businesses without power.

SE Georgia was hit hard. It was a complete blackout for our community. Our power and water was restored this morning and crews are working around the clock to make roadways and homes safe. My husband is a first responder and he responded to a wreck involving a woman who was killed on Saturday because traffic lights were out when a semi hit them. Neighbors are helping neighbors. Praying!!!

God please help all these people. Please send people to help these people. I pray that the super rich will donate money - that they will get involved. My heart goes out to all the animals too. Much love I am sending from South Africa to all affected by this horrendous disaster.

This was the result of 3 large weather systems, not just one hurricane.

I've observed a natural phenomenon in my great grandmother's generation: everyone focused on building and maintaining their homes and using their limited resources wisely. In my grandmother's generation, things were more relaxed, and people often neglected to take responsibility for their lives or maintain the infrastructure around them. This is where the myth originated that you don't need to maintain your septic tank or ditch. My dad's generation often talked about these myths but did their best with what they had. Unfortunately, many of them faced problems with failing septic tanks and infrastructure. Now, my generation is often seen on YouTube talking about and fixing the problems that previous generations ignored. This includes power washing sidewalks, redesigning ditches, and pumping septic tanks that haven't been pumped in decades. I believe major floods like this are a result of our crumbling infrastructure, which couldn't handle the influx of water if smaller systems were properly maintained. Hills are oversaturated because the water can't drain, and rivers overflow because nothing is ever maintained. It's time for our culture to prioritize the land we live on instead of material possessions. Perhaps it's also time for the government to let us own our land rather than lease it at a high price.
