why Gamemaker? why not Unity or Unreal?

I’d recommend looking into RPG Maker MV or MZ… Tons of helpful tutorials, large + helpful community, & nearly endless possibilities with hundreds of free plug-ins

I use Gamemaker because I feel right at home using it. Simple. Unity doesn't sit right with me and coding in Unreal isn't my cup of tea, so I rather stay with what I'm comfortable with.

I go to uccs learning game design and yeah gamemaker for 2d games, unity for both, and unreal isnt in the curriculum but thats for mostly 3d games

Pls pls pls dont start your game dev journey in Unity. It is truly NOT beginnner friendly. For beginners, Gamemaker is probably the most accessible option.

This is not to shit on Unity, it’s much more powerful and versatile than Gamemaker, but if you don’t have any game dev experience (and especially if you don’t have coding experience), Unity’s scope is bound to be cause for more frustration than anything. Please let Unity be something you graduate to, rather than starting there.

I started with Unity (cause that’s what everyone suggests for some reason), and it nearly turned off game dev entirely.
