Canon EOS R - First Technical Look

Jake has a first hands-on and brief test of the brand new Canon EOS R! What do you think of Canon's new system?

Since recording this I have learned some new features.
- The battery is decent, it lasted all day showing of the camera yesterday.
- You can store custom profiles which included button remapping!
- You unlock the back multi-function button by tapping and holding the left button.

Sorry for the brain fart. I say that the top screen is OLED & E-INK in the same sentence. The top screen uses a matrix dot LCD and the Viewfinder is OLED. Sorry Jake

The fact that the basic EF-R adapter will come bundled with the camera is a good thing, even better it's compatible with EF-S lenses as well, for the first time in a Canon FF camera.

Such a perfect video for filmmakers. This is exactly what I needed to watch. The crop and rolling shutter in 4k along with a lack of 4K at 60fps and 1080p in 120fps are big reasons why I still need other cameras, but for 90% of what I shoot, this camera seems right and strikes the balance I want. Will be pre ordering it next week immediately

I am a Sony a7 user. What I appreciate with Nikon and Canon is their variety of lens. Not only their own variety but also that of Tamron, Sigma, Tokina or even Zeiss lenses for Nikon and Canon cameras.
That Sony won't achieve that.
Sony EOS R and Nikon Z series aren't available for extensive reviews yet. I am wondering how much efficient are their full frame adapters.
The previous adapters for Nikon 1 cameras and EOS-M camera weren't really good.

I don't care with Canon $190 adapter to usb C
I want to know, are there rubber slots so we could put dummy LP-E6 battery inside and use the adapter ?
Also the HDMI,
does it performs mirror like 7D mark II, so we can connect the camera to screen without indicators showing or dark camera screen ?

What about the on/off dial on the left. How does it operate in a real world high pressure situation? Does it turn the camera on and off in a professional way?

From all the things people complain about with this Canon camera, the one that does stand out is the lack of "dual card slots" UHS-II speeds, because the camera is large enough to fit that without any problem. All the other things is typical "Canon" and should be no surprise to anyone. If you want more from Canon you have to get a more high end camera.

Do you think the EOS R is better in video quality than the Canon C100 Mark II at 1080p? If so, for video, is it better to get the EOS R instead of the C100 Mark II for short form video?
