Many don't realize this but, Irene Ryan was the very first Country & Western artist to sign with Motown and actually did an episode of The Beverly Hillbillies with a future Motown star in the name of Teena Marie.

The weekend is a good time to catch up on videos I missed. She was a wonderful actress. Too bad we don't have footage of her from Pippin. Nowadays the cast might have did a song on the Today show, or Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Or even PBS would run a taped performance during Pledge Week. It's great that she left her money to a worthwhile cause. Otherwise the government might have gotten most of it. She probably didn't have many other relatives to give her money. If the cast had gotten the syndication deals of later TV stars, her estate would be worth a lot more.

Interesting! Made me wonder what her worth was and according to a couple of different web sites is was $1 million. Not bad, but in today's dollars that's $7.5 million so it was a pretty good chunk of change.
