Superman is about to kill Joker, but Batman intervenes. Clark urges Bruce to step aside. Bruce suggests that Superman take care of Lois and let him deal with Joker. Clark, discontent with the way Bruce has dealt with Joker in the past, questions Batman. Bruce vows that he will never let Joker hurt him again.

On their way to Gotham, Joker tells Batman that he is the reason why he smiles but he also enjoys tormenting his friend. Joker thinks he would like to play with Superman again once the baby is born. Before he can even finish the sentence, Batman snaps Jokers neck and drives to the police station to turn himself in. Later, Superman visits Bruce in prison.

Clark asks Bruce why he killed the Joker. Bruce explains that the Joker almost took everything from Clark, and he was going to try it again once his daughter was born. Superman can't believe that Bruce went against everything he believed in for him. He then bursts through the prison barrier to hug him for what he did. Clark then offers him freedom, but Bruce refuses to leave and accepts his punishment for Joker's death.
