But the hope that Batman is offering, despite his sincerity, is still from the mind of a lunatic, and it would never work (walking on a beam of light). The joker is insane and regardless of whether or not he believes Batman is sincere, he would never trust him anyway, because he knows that intentions don’t always determine the outcome. Both are right, sincere, and wrong for different reasons, and because of this, both are hopeless; two sides of the same coin, destined to live this joke for eternity.
