I tried 'Black Myth Wukong' on PC & PS5...

Black Myth: Wukong is an action role-playing game developed and published by Game Science. It is inspired by the classical Chinese novel Journey to the West. It was released worldwide for PlayStation 5 and Windows on August 20, 2024, with an Xbox Series X/S version slated for a later date. The game received generally positive reviews from critics with praise directed towards its combat, visual design, and worldbuilding, while criticism was aimed at its level design and technical issues. The protagonist is known as the Destined One, who is a monkey based on Sun Wukong from the novel.

UPDATE:
The game has now peaked at 2, 223, 179, which means it now holds the Steam record for the highest concurrent player count of any Single Player game of all time! Counting PS5 and WeGame this is without a doubt the biggest launch of 2024 so far. Take that IGN 🤣

Also, I've been playing a lot more and haven't run into any major technical issues on PC, except for a crash in the main menu when opening the game once. There's occasional frame drops, sure, but it seems that the Day 1 patch has done a lot to help performance. The PS5 performance mode is still rough and doesn't seem to get much better. Just depends on whether you can tune out the artifacts and distortion.

The lip syncing is off because it's animated to the Chinese language, not english

squeaky voice is supposed to mimick how actual apes sound, so they did that on purpose, it fits perfectly well, because it accentuates the cockiness of Wukong, because he actually don't care about the etiquette of the empirial heavens, eventhough he is enlightened as a budha and part of the celestial court.

Sun Wu Kong is first and foremost a Monkey, a rambunctious god who in his time of godhood, Ate an entire orchard of fruit that gave someone immortality, Drank all their wine, extorted 4 other gods for magical items (those 4 guys blasting wukong when erlong got knocked away), and Pissed on the budahs hand. He is a Monkey and A Trickster god. The voice matches that aspect of him very much. the disonence comes from how he looks in game, He looks stoic and hard when hes actually still a Trickster god

Walked into this not expecting much. Its my off day from work today and I've been playing 6 hours non stop. It has its flaws, but it keeps you hooked and the graphics are stellar! Big big kudos to game science for knocking the game out of the park!

The Monkey King's voice is very much similar to the old Chinese television shows.

As has been said, lipsync is done for the default game language, which is Chinese. Also, regarding the voice, many Chinese players have pointed out that the main character voice sounds pretty spot on to a cultural staple & iconic Chinese TV show of The Journey to the West and its main character.

Played on the PS5 and its not as bad as creators are making it out to be on Perf Mode.
Its a $500 console not a high end CPU and RTX 4090 that costs 5x as much as a PS5, have expectations in place.
If you have a PS5, you'll enjoy it.
