A compliment is always nice. But a real compliment from someone that you truly respect? It can be enough to make a grown man cry.

One of my favorite scenes in the entire series.. it’s so wholesome. I wish there was more real life interviews about Sparky Speirs. From what I heard is that he kept a very low profile after the war, and he only went to a handful of easy company reunions.

I read somewhere that Lt. Dike was actually a good officer. Had earned a Bronze or Silver star (can't remember) and the reason he froze up in the attack was that he had been shot and was in shock.

I always loved this scene, especially when Speirs congratulates Lipton on his promotion from 1st Sergeant to 2nd Lieutenant. Band of Brothers will always be great!

Spoilers ahead but

The thing is, that part about him shooting POWs isn't bullshit. We literally watch that happen through malarky's POV in the second episode. (Technically, we don't see the actual shooting, but we do watch speirs walk up to the prisoners, give them all cigs, and then hear the sound of a thompson shooting, which, given that the guy guarding the prisoners has a garand and there's nobody else there....)

Lipton really was the greatest. He deserved every battlefield commission possible. They should have made him Field Marshall.

Lipton straddled the line of being a superior and one of the guys perfectly. His job was exactly as Speirs described it…keep the men focused, keep them fighting, and keep their spirits up as much as possible in the face of horror, and he always led by example.

I really love this scene! All that time, Lipton was just trying to take care of his men and keep them alive. Spiers' acknowledgment of his leadership must've come as a surprise, but everyone in Lipton's platoon would probably agree.

So many good characters in this series. I think I’ve rewatched it about a dozen times over my life and have never lost any enjoyment each time.

The fact that men like Winters, Spiers and Lupton lived on this planet at the same time and "men" today cant even change a tire or find a water shutoff to their home makes me sad.

I’m sure Lipton was happy to hear that from Speirs, but I feel like in a way that could make him feel even more guilty. It probably makes him feel even more guilty for all the men that died
