Lol, a lot of Californians move out to random places, won't assimilate, or learn about the culture, complain, then try to vote to bring the very thing they ran from, there. Personally, I'd love to experience all four seasons. I've experienced enough of summer 8 months of the year here in AZ, that I personally welcome the change. Im originally from SoCal myself.

Born and raised in California. I moved to Utah 17 years ago and instead of remaining the same I learned how badly California is ran by many of their politics. Utah has been nice and I’m grateful to live here. Beautiful state that has provided my family and I with many opportunities.

I was raised in San Francisco, with a conservative background. When I was growing up, acceptance of different ideologies was accepted and respected between the left and right. But, I watched it change drastically and the inclusiveness divided to an extreme.
Relocating to Utah has been absolutely amazing. I was reluctant at first due to my non denominational background, and the influence of a high population of LDS.
I haven’t encountered anything but genuine niceness and acceptance of all. The citizens are nice and respectful to one another. It’s been a breath of fresh air.
Not to mention, where I live, you literally can leave your car unlocked or front door unlocked. I don’t read about murder and extensive crime every single day.
The most rewarding part being, you feel and live the freedoms you were born with. I don’t have local bureaucrats or people of the predominant faith telling me how to live my life. Wish I had moved here sooner.

My sister (from Utah) moved to Boston with her husband and thought she'd make brownies and go introduce herself to her neighbors (a very Utah thing to do). Not one would even open the door all the way. They sort of cracked the door open and asked what she was selling. None would take the brownies. Very different cultures. She did grow to love Boston however...it just took time to make friends.

The whole entire country used to talk s*** on Utah like what's in Utah and now it's the most popular state in the world and I can't even afford a house in the neighborhoods on building

Ah. I remember the good old days growing up in Utah when it DIDNT look like CA with the homeless, gangs, overpriced homes, etc. Californians are like pine beetles. They find something healthy and vibrant, latch on to it, eat it until it’s dead and then move on.

If you don't like it here, I-15 goes right back. Feel free to jump back on it and head home. I promise you none of us Utah natives would care. Heck, most of us would pay for your fuel!

Born in AZ, we'd love to ship you Californians right back honestly, I'm sure lots of people in UT, CO, TX, OR, ID and WA feel the same.

Don’t come to Utah and vote for what you fled

As a utah resident born and raised here can honestly say the amount of people moving here is truly hated by people born and raised here. It’s completely ruined the housing market and drove up prices so high people born and raised here are being forced further and further south to be able to buy a house. They bring bad political views from places such as California.

1) No Beach... even though you dont go every day, having the beach near by is such a plus.
2) Utah is SO DRY... you feel it in your skin and your throat when you breath. You realize it instantly when you're back to the So Cal basin, it just feels like your back to normal, the way it's supposed to feel.

When we moved to Farmington, UT from California, the morning we arrived with our big U-Haul all of the neighbors came and helped us unload the truck. We are not members of the predominant culture, but that didn't matter.
I regret moving back to California.

You can bet no one has any greater "regret" than Utah😉

This was very kind. The one thing I really ask of anyone that relocates for a positive reason is very simple. You came here knowing the culture. Don't try and change it to what you left behind. We love everyone. That love of neighbors is important. Do not create a culture you ran from. Embrace the way we live. I didn't try to change Denver or Phoenix. I grew to appreciate how they lived there even if I didn't live their style. It's a RED state. That really has worked in a very positive manner. If you want a blue state then please move or let things be as they are here. You will find caring generous people that actually accept you for you if you let them live how they live. Again, thank you for a great piece and view points on this place.

Originally from MA, the one thing I couldn't get use to in Utah was not being able to drive to the beach for a day or weekend.

I'm originally from California and lived here most of my life. Utah is a beautiful State to live in. I lived there for 3 years and would go back if I could. Maybe one day, I hope. Wasatch Mountain. I truly loved living in Utah. Way better than California.
