I was born and raised in LA. I never wanted to leave. But because of the Homeless people, taxes and garbage in the streets I moved to Las Vegas 4 years ago. I have met the best people and had the best time of my life. I live South of Las Vegas and it is awesome here. I work for a Tech Company. There are tons of nerdy Tech people here. The people here are much nicer than Los Angeles. Mary Jane Falls, Lake Mead, Red Rock, The Bird Preserve are just a few of the beautiful places here.

When I moved from Germany to Las Vegas, the first two years I had only one friend in this town and it was pure luck that I met her. Yes I loved the city itself, but couldn't find good people I trust that I wanted to become friends with.
Then I moved to an other high rise and directly noticed that the people there were so different. I became friends with many of my neighbors and they introduced me to their friends as well. Now I have very interesting & smart people around me all the time. Some of them became family to me. We also go on vacation trips together. So hang in there, you will find good people you can 100% trust. Just give it a bit more time and try different things.

My God, this guy is so miserable that it doesn't matter the location he'll just trash talk about it. What a snarky, exhausting individual.

You won't meet friends in Vegas, the same way you do in California because the lifestyle is a bit different. You need to get out to events and meet people, once you do, your circle of friends grows, and longer-term residents/locals know that, so you are embraced. I hardly met anyone my first year in 2014 but once I started getting out there, I met a good circle of friends.

I moved to Vegas 2 years ago and it was the best decision I've ever made. I've never been happier. I love it here.

TIP. When you miss your old office job - you think going back to it, will make you feel better. But when you do - you will immediately feel like you've GONE BACK in life. Not forward.
The people you have good memories of working with, are gone. Times and technology have changed too. It won't feel the same at all. You need something new in life.
In TechLead's case - I think he should start or buy his own business. There's no reason he can't become a big tech player out there.

I currently live in Los Angeles and it's so disgustingly unfair how expensive homes are. Yeah the weather, food and people are nice but we are a family of 5 and a 1500 sq ft home for $4k/ month rent is not cutting it.

He's not lying, or trolling etc. I came to Vegas as well like a year ago, I'm not a millionaire like him but tbh I have a lot of the same complaints. I've never drank the water here, I've read the same things and I don't trust the water here. The city, is kind of a mess, it's cheap here for certain things but also pretty expensive, it's not cheap to do "fun things" here if it doesn't involve a casino...they charge an arm and a leg to do fun things here, I went to a museum here and it was 60 bucks per person...for a museum. I'd say living in Vegas is mid. And yeah it's hard to make friends here because people here tend to be very fickle. It's ok... I mean not the worst place I've ever lived but it's really not that great to live here. There is a lot of other things I can mention, like if you have kids... The public schools here are very bad, UNLV is a decent college but it's not that great. This city isn't really kid oriented or family friendly. Lot of negative sht going on here, yeah there is low traffic congestion but people drive crazy af here. I've witnessed 3 different accidents right in front of me here. And he's wrong about danger, Las Vegas is in the top 10 most dangerous cities as far as murder rate, there is a lot of burglary and strong armed robbery going on here, shootings happen pretty much every other day, a shooting happened at my apartment complex a couple weeks ago and there was a bunch of cops circling, nobody got hit though. Good things, I'd say the weather is still good even though the summer kindof sucks, there is a lot going on here, if you want to be in entertainment, hotel management, or services oriented industry, it's a great city for that, a lot of trade shows and stuff like that happen here and sometimes you can find deals to do fun stuff. But overall it's mid, and it's really not that cheap... Yeah no state income tax but they make up for that in other ways trust me. I've never paid more for car insurance and registration than I have here and I've lived in several cities.

Kindof interesting, beat the bush recently mentioned he sortof regrets leaving electrical engineering for a career as a content creator on YouTube, and he doesn't pull the numbers you do so. Idk, you guys did that, now you're doing this... Can't go back in time.

Oh and lastly, you should probably look at Henderson or Summerline before you decide full on to go back to CA. I'm surprised you didn't mention either. I'm looking at getting an apartment in summerline, it's gonna be high but I think worth it over where I'm at now.

What matters most are the people you spend time with, having somekind of family. Your life seems very isolated even for an introvert. Wishing you all the best

Be proud you don’t fit in here. I see people in the comments slamming you for your honesty but perhaps they’re the ones that are doing the street racing, driving like selfish maniacs with no regard for the lives of others, 4:14 drunk / high, sober for an hour out of the day. Very hard to find good people here anymore.

I left California a year ago and am moving back. I never realized how much I took for granted living in that state. In retrospect the issues that made me want to leave are not nearly as bad as issues I have experienced living in CO near Denver. I also visit the East Coast frequently now for work, and I am really not a fan. Maybe something like Washington would be better but I don't know anybody there so moving back to CA is an easy choice for me.

I have lived in Irvine before and it's a very nice and clean city with a high East Asian population. Always felt very safe there. Though it does have a bit of an artificial feel to it.

Honestly as a Vegas native I'm surprised you moved here.

My brother recently moved from here to San Diego and he does not coming back and I understand.

My attachment to this place is just solely because I grew up here.

Once you get outside of the casinos, there is not much besides heat and dirt.

Nevada is a very spread out, outdoorsy type place. Worth checking out. But some people don't like the solace of the open desert. I do. I will trade California beaches for our sunsets and vast open nothingness.

Ever been horseback riding in the open desert? Land sail on a dry lake bed? Go skeet shooting? Camp in the open desert with nobody around for miles. Drive a dune buggy or quad flat out. Go River rafting through a canyon. Go to a brothel (probably not), go to a ghost town or up north to some of the older towns like Virginia City or Carson?

I guess you don't know the joy of being in a little house out in the middle of nowhere with nobody around.

Grilling up some up some steaks with a nice drink and a smoke. Purple and orange skys. Vastness for miles. Blanket of stars in total darkness when the sun goes down.

California is a different vibe entirely then Nevada. People are typically laid back, anywhere but Vegas. In Vegas most people are very closed off.

Especially outside of Vegas. Vegas is kinda some what like California. (Depends on what you are doing in the city).

Las Vegas is a black hole in reality in the desert.

I lived in Las Vegas for a couple of years but I returned to the Central Coast, I have to agree with you the water is disgusting and people aren't worth waisting your time on. Wish you the best good luck, I do go back periodically!!
