Hey guys, this is Max Tapper again for HowCast and today what we're going to go through is how to do a situp correctly. Now, a lot of you guys are out there doing situps in the gym but few of you guys are doing it correctly. So, I'm going to show you how to do it. All Right. Take a look.

Now, very important, a sit up means that we're coming from the floor into sitting up. All right. Now your feet must stay on the floor. The thing that people do mostly wrong in the gym is they tug on their neck and try to get themselves up. And do this: one, and back, and back. And that's wrong. All right.

I'm going to show you the way to do it. Nice and controlled. Nice and slow. One, slow on the way down. Two, three, four. All right. So that is the way to do a proper situp. Now guys, go out there, have a ball, knock some abs out and do your situps correctly. All right? Be safe.

25 proper sit-ups are one hell of a lot better than 100 incorrect ones, coming from someone who has gotten injuries from bad form. Trying to work on better, slower, and more controlled ones. Thank you.

I agree with the weighs around the ankle. but I tend to put my feet under the bottom opening of my sofa...this gives me stability to do sit ups completely until my body becomes use to the workout

Without a doubt one of the best tutorials I've ever seen, I know it's a bit old so it wasn't made under the some conditions that YouTube algorithms dictate today but even in 2012 tutorials were hit or miss.

I can't believe it. I was pulling my neck and straining it up until now but as soon as I did the first 3 sit ups your way I had a surprised look my face and got gassed! Big Thank You!

The military guys perform 100 situps in 2 minutes for their PT training. I'm quite close to their score (my reps number's 80) .. let me know if there's any more intense challenge from this sit-up section. I'll be happy to try to reach that level successfully.

I've been doing 3 sets by doing 20 sit ups I've been struggling a little bit but I haven't been going slow because you could feel the burn like that but practice makes perfect.

If you can't do sit-ups, start with crunches for a couple of weeks to refine your abdomen. You'll get a stronger core that will set up for proper sit-ups.
