Most people don't know this, but learning how to gain muscle and mastering lean bulking can be more challenging than getting lean. The typical advice you will get on your fitness journey is that gaining muscle and fat comes in similar ratios and that you have to go on a bulk to gain muscle.

In this video I share what you need to know about lean bulking and a simple strategy to gain lean muscle without gaining too much body fat. This lean bulking diet and approach are based on my experience having gone through many building muscle phases while staying between 10% body fat and 15% body fat. I hope these insights help you on your fitness journey to get lean and avoid some of the mistakes I've made.

Great advice Mario and that 4:1 ratio is awesome. So many of us take bulking too "seriously" because it is so easy and fun to gain weight :) For most of us, me including, muscle can be gained and fat can be lost at the same time. Like most I am not looking to be a body builder but I want to be lean and somewhat muscular. So, basically I don't care if I look huge with a shirt on. I want to look good without one without being bulky.

Your content is great. I suspect I am similar to you, an IT guy, previously very sedentary but worked out. I am currently cutting weight, have lost about 30lbs since start of covid and around 12% body fat. Your tips on walking and nutrition and how to judge my progress have been spot on, I've seen a lot of success with them. Planning on getting down to 10-11% -ish, and going into a reverse diet and then into bulk.

I lost 9.4 lbs of fat and gained 1.4 lbs of muscle according to my last dexa scan in about 3 months. I was 18.4% fat and now 13.4% while eating 1800 cals and 1 gram of protein per lb of bodyweight. Shooting for 10%

Hi Mario! LOVE the content!! Question on that build:clean ratio tho, how do you go about the cutting portion of the ratio? Aggressive mini cut? Increase protein consumption? Aggressive/moderate decrease of Carbs carbs and/or fats? I'd love to hear from you. Thanks man!
