I wish companies saw the value in this. Mental health is just as important as physical health. When it's cared for, people aren't just happier. They function better. They're more productive, they collaborate better, and the entire team benefits.

Out of all the megalomaniacs, the egotistical politicians and business owners, Simon Sinek is a breath of fresh air in the real world. You can tell where he is human and where he is superhuman, all without flaunting it too little or less, your mind is much needed in these times, Simon!

Man did i need to hear this. Burnt out from working 8am to 8pm every day with 20mins for lunch.
Am trying to switch to 8.30am - 8pm, but with 1hour for lunch and 30mins to 1 hour for dinner. My axe is my brain!

Great story about the Lumber Jacks!
I thought the one who disappear for an hour went to take his lunch break. 😂

We love the analogy Simon.
It's incredible how we tend to prioritize work and financial gains, and forget about the most important things like physical, mental and spiritual health. Prioritization of those will tremendously improve the quality of our lives in every aspects.

Reasonable freedom for employees - what a great approach and understanding of modern team spirit! Unfortunately we need leaders supporting this, having corresponding trust into their employees, team members.

Most work environment's dont factor in burn-out or employee fatigue. Even if they do a lot of them play it off as it being your fault instead of theirs since they can't afford to admit the latter. The amount of begging i've had to do to let a manager know my back is killing me, or I feel like im over-heating, or im running out of energy to avoid losing employment is incredible.

As a 1 man operation I work half days Monday and Wednesday, Work full days on Tuesday and Thursday, Fridays I completed paperwork for an hour or two then I'm done. Every once in awhile I'll have to work a weekend day but most of the time I try and keep the weekends off.

What a beautiful concept!

like you said,
some days you’re done before you’ll even start,
and it’s great to know,
there’s at least one company,
who understands that in the end of the day,
we’re all human,
and sometimes life gets to be too much,
and that you can take a day off without lying and or pretending,
And therefore won’t have to feel guilty for feeling bad,
and now guilty too!

Are you hiring? 😊

How pure and simple that is. Thank you.

A smarter lumberjack would just take 2 sharp axes for the day and switch halfway through! They could then finish an hour earlier :)

My company values this, and it’s so great because we are all the better for it

Great metaphor. Basically, same what Stephen Covey is explaning with his 7th habit for being highly effective (book: The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People).
