1. I don’t have to do this
2. Goal is to be imperfect “done is better than perfect”
3. Work capacity is built from time under tension

Don't forget the #1 reason: You're doing what you want to do in life. Your work has intrinsic meaning to you. If you were an accountant just to pay the bills and you don't give two hoots about accounting for any other reason, there's no way you would be willing to work 14 hours a day.

I took a close look at the calendar at 5:25, if you take out gym, lunch and dinner blocks, it's about 8-10 hours doing work per day. I don't know whether that counts as "Work 14 Hours a Day"

There is a vast difference between consensual 14 hour work days, and 14 hour work days for low pay for other people.

First off, I really needed this. So thank you 🙏🏾

My notes paraphrasing Leila's advice with my own thoughts in it:

Your mentality around work needs to change for you to optimize work and work capacity.

-You don't HAVE to do this: You don't have to start a business. You CHOOSE to start a business. It's a choice. You can start selling stuff online instead or something else.

-The goal is to be imperfect. What *doesn't* allow us to work long hours is monitoring if we're doing perfect work and having a ton of judgment for something not being 110%.
Your work can be imperfect, but it can be pretty decent too.

-Your work capacity will adapt over time under tension (like working out everyday will increase your stamina to work out more) until you reach a new level of normal.
Change the meaning you give to working long hours. If you only work hard (like 14 hours in a day) for once a month, then OF COURSE it's gonna be hard, because you do it once a month. If you did this for 2 to 3 weeks, you'll be more used to doing this and feel better about it.

-Don't be where everyone else wants you to be, because everyone else wants you to "take a break" "relax" "don't work too hard" are these people making more money than you? Are they grinding?

Identifying and changing your beliefs about yourself, your output, and your results will massively change you for the better.

Wow, you go girl! I'm also doing the same thing. I work 12 hour days 5 days per week. I actually enjoy what I'm doing and can't get enough. Thanks for all your advice! 🙏🏾❤️

I see 2 hours /day on her calendar are spent at the gym.
So the 12-13 hour days are only 10-11 hours at work, and a 7-9 pm dinner scheduled every evening. And the weekends look unscheduled.
So her schedule is not that crazy busy as it sounds.

Thanks so much for sharing this Leila! I’ve been struggling with this recently having just newly pivoted towards business and entrepreneurship and BOY, is it such a mindset change from being a full-time uni student. It’s been an uphill battle with the occasional shed of tears to feel I’m not exercising my capacity to do and be more, and the stress of letting others down. Your videos have been great and come at the perfect time.

I LOVE your focus on the mental side of success! It's so hard to find practical, no-BS advice for it.

Nice work as always - coincidentally, I just had this exact conversation with someone yesterday and was reflecting about it this morning. It’s funny how working more can actually lead to less stress and better mental health. Keep going strong LH 💪

Great video -- As a business owner myself, I love these types of videos, as I too enjoy working these long hours for production, and because I choose to.

My guess is most of her work involves sitting at a desk. Shes not doing physical blue collar work like so many people out there have to do to make ends meet. Try working in a warehouse for 14 hours a day or doing roofing or construction work. She would be exhausted and her body would be wrecked.

Another comment regarding working "14 hours a day" is that work is just different as an entrepreneur. I am a graphic designer. Work looks like sitting down and slugging it out with the Adobe Suite ( or God forbid Canva or MNTN) and not moving for the duration of my work day. Looking at your calendar, you have meetings, lunches, dinners etc. You even have hours scheduled for the gym, which is awesome. Your workflow really is a thing of beauty, there is so much self-care in your schedule which, in my opinion, makes this enjoyable and sustainable.

Always love the way you blend mindset and hard work. I believe we also need to distinguish between beliefs that are really "ours" and those imposed on us by society (e.g. "oh my god, you work 14 hours, no time for yourself"). Let us not get affected by beliefs that do not belong to us 🙏

You work for about 8 hours a day.. lunch/dinner/gym is not work

It's all about the mindset. Our beliefs and narratives are so powerful! I love the framework of having the goal to be imperfect.

This explains so much & why work was feeling easier but on the flip side I was having an internal dialogue judging myself for working 6-7 days / week.

- You don't have to do this. Anything you do is a choice
- Imperfect is better than nothing done
- Work capacity is built from time under tension
