“SEALS aren’t there to have a fair fight” poetic truth.

Overweigth in a trench is a death sentence.

I didn't know my uncle was a Seal(Team 10) until I was in my late 30s, he literally never talked about it, it came up in conversation over Thanksgiving dinner just before my cousin was about to do his fourth deployment to Afghanistan and he was talking shop with him. I was in the Navy myself a long time ago so I was somewhat shocked he never told me, even when I was in the service(I was shit, just a grunt sea bee, a wrench turner, nothing special) now my Uncle is a very quiet man, but incredibly intelligent, and I remember him when I was a kid in the late 80s, enough to remember when he was just getting out of the military, and he was quite slim. I actually asked him about this, as my memory of Seals at Little Creek was that none of them were hulking dudes, all were fit. He told me it all came down to endurance. Team 10, the team he was in, was an artic unit, often trainings going on extremely long skiing runs then humping it for a hundred miles with 80 pounds of kit in subzero artic conditions, being a muscle head would simply not have the endurance for something like that. He's a retired carpenter now, and I still look up to him despite being in my 40s now, he will always be like a second dad to me.

If you actually read that, I hope you have a wonderful day. 🙂

There is a reason why even top MMA fighters dont look like body builders

They’re not looking for the best guy, or the strongest guy, or the meanest guy. They’re looking for the right guy.

True. My neighbor was a Navy SEAL all along and we didn't know it for 2 decades. My man is built like a typical office worker.

What they do have is the ability to go forward regardless of pain or conditions and the will to complete their mission.
They are the ultimate of tough, mentally and physically. God bless each and everyone of them.

Some of these soldiers in civi clothes look like some of the most average dudes you’ll see

Remember: every muscle that isn't mission critical is a waste of energy and bloodflow

For a society that is so obsessed with appearances, this is an amazing message.

The body that the military wants (and you should too) for the "perfect" soldier is a commination of a swimmer's body, a short to mid distance track athlete's body, a gymnasts body, and a half hearted weightlifters body. IOW a well rounded body fit for whatever combat situation you face.

The most effective Soldiers have the physique of a track athlete, not Rambo

They are built for putting people down, not picking things up.

As Colonel David Hackworth said, if you find yourself in a fair fight, you didn’t plan properly.

You forgot one important thing.
Special forces guys must have moustache. It gives them superhuman powers.

I worked out with a Vietnam Era Seal team 6 member for three weeks. Daily we would lift heavy then run. We are now in our 70s and still train.

In other words, they have a hiker's body, not a builder's body. Makes perfect sense.

Thanks for explaining it. In a better way, I was trying my whole life explaining this to my friends, plus that body builder will be an easy target

Just like camp. They dropped us off in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night and told us we had 6 hours to make it back to base camp. Our instructors disappeared into the dark and watched from a far. It's about endurance not physical strength.

A way I heard a former royal commando describe his work was “we weren’t there to have a fair fight, we were there to win”
