The lack of donuts on polligon is ironic.

I've been using IES lights all wrong for a while now, I used a spot light with ies plugged into strength thinking "hey, that's the closest thing to IES." Just had my mind blown, the spot light only works with ies if you adjust the angle to MAX, meaning it effectively doesn't work with ies.
Thanks for this quick feature dive! It was SUPER helpful to me.

Hats off to you, man, for your intense work. So many things we don't know even using Blender on a daily basis! This is the kind of tutorials the Blender world gravely needs.

You have one of the best video channels on Blender. I hope you'll continue with this format, cheers.

If you have a background node in the world tab you can just click on it and ctrl+shift+t(enable node wrangler) the environment node gets set up however this does not work with other node in world tab(eg emission. You'll get the regular image texture)

Well, Andrew hasn't added any scanned donuts, because he has perfected modelling them from scratch ;)
Still, he should add some to the library, that's true!

Could you please elaborate on the "volumetric cube" that you're showing at 2:33?

Amazing work and help as always! This is unrelated, but I was wondering if you know/could show a way in Blender to use an alpha image as a mask using an object's UV? In ZBrush, you can use an alpha image to mask an object based off of that object's UV which essentially makes the alpha mask "wrap" correctly around the object. I was wondering if there is a similar way in Blender?

A use case I was thinking of is if you have a midsole of a boot, and you wanted to extrude the masked tread/lug pattern downwards a certain length, and then extrude the lugs outwards a certain length different from the downward length, so that it appears that the tread is riding up the sidewall of the midsole.

isn't it necessary to lower the power of the lamp to 1 W or 0.5 mW, because the ies file contains the power?

Guru, you listening?
We want scanned donuts

I wonder if there is any way to make lens flares. I know i can use planes with texture and transparency, but i hope there is a way to do this automatically or more realistic than manualy

good tips, but "Photoreal" Lighting means you add those limits of cameras and photo paper. mostly blurs of all kinds. Realistic is when you go for best possible image quality and it look like real life.
